Large Scale Patterns of Antimicrofouling Defenses in the Hard Coral Pocillopora verrucosa in an Environmental Gradient along the Saudi Arabian Coast of the Red Sea

Mean chemical antimicrofouling defense of P. verrucosa against three bacterial strains (averaged for the spring samplings in 2011 and 2012) along the Saudi Red Sea coast from north (Maq) to south (Far).

Defense strength is expressed as Log Effect Ratio (± SE, see text): more negative values mean stronger repulsion of bacterial settlers by the coral holobiont surface extract.
