Virulence in Murine Model Shows the Existence of Two Distinct Populations of Brazilian Vaccinia virus Strains

Body weight of BALB/c mice infected with BR-VACV.

Groups of mice (n = 4) were inoculated with 106 PFU of VACV by the intranasal route: (A) WR, BAV, SAV, VBH GP1V, and (B) LST-BUT, ARAV, GP2V and PSTV. The weight of the mice was determined daily and those that lost more than 25% of their initial weight were euthanized. The percentages of median weight relative to their initial weight were plotted. The weight of uninfected mice (control) was followed as well (A, B). The error bars indicate the standard deviations. Significance variations were calculated using the Student's t-test (P≤0,05: statistical significance).
