Summary

At all times the sedimentation technique in a centrifugal field is one of the most classical methods successfully applied for the particle size analysis of a latex. Up to now the application of this measurement principle is restricted to ultracentrifuges nearly without any exceptions, which certainly are extreme complex apparatuses.

In this paper is a shown that the disc centrifuge is convenient tool for the analysis of a latex too, but only in combination with a special photometrical device.

After discussions of the experimental fundamentals, the basic equations are provided for the analysis of the data obtained. The relationship between extinction coefficient and particle size is calculated quite theoretically with regard to the MIE theory. Consequently in this case the troublesome calibration is avoided. The risk to obtain unstable density sedimentation is prevented in a rigorous way from a well tested gradient technique. The efficiency of this method proposed is demonstrated by means of some experimental examples.
