Abstract
An allene-doped liquid argon calorimeter whose electrode consists of thin multi parallel plates has been used to measure charge-changing cross sections of 58Ni ions with energies of 400–500 MeV/nucleon. In this calorimeter, the energy loss distribution along the particle track was measured until the major particles stopped. The atomic number of the secondary particles was precisely determined and the total and partial charge-changing cross sections were obtained.
