    Abstract: Tele-rehabilitation (TR) may be an effective alternative or complement to centre-based cardiac rehabilitation (CBCR) with heart failure (HF) patients, helping overcome accessibility problems to CBCR. The aim of this study is to systematically review the literature in order to assess the clinical effectiveness of TR programs in the management of chronic HF patients, compared to standard of care and standard rehabilitation (CBCR). Methods and Results: We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials on the effect and safety of TR programs in HF patients, regarding cardiovascular death, heart failure-related hospitalizations, functional capacity and quality of life. We searched 4 electronic databases up until May 2020, reviewed references of relevant articles and contacted experts. A quantitative synthesis of evidence was performed by means of random-effects meta-analyses. We included 17 primary studies, comprising 2206 patients. Four studies reported the number of hospitalizations (TR: 301; Control: 347). TR showed to be effective in the improvement of HF patients’ functional capacity in the 6 Minute Walk-Test (Mean Difference (MD) 15.86; CI 95% [7.23; 24.49] ; I2 = 74%) and in peak oxygen uptake (pVO2) results (MD 1.85; CI 95% [0.16; 3.53]; I 2 = 93%). It also improved patients’ quality of life (Minnesota Living with Heart Failure Questionnaire: MD −6.62; CI 95% [−11.40; −1.84]; I 2 = 99%). No major adverse events were reported during TR exercise. Conclusion: TR showed to be superior than UC without CR on functional capacity improvement in HF patients. There is still scarce evidence of TR impact on hospitalization and cv death reduction. Further research and more standardized protocols are needed to improve evidence on TR effectiveness, safety and cost-effectiveness.

    Abstract: The purpose of the study was three-fold: (i) to describe ball speed and arm speed during power jump serve in volleyball; (ii) compare the outcomes among playing positions, and (iii) analyze the relationships among outcomes. One middle blocker (MI), three opposites (OP), three setters (S), and six outside hitters or receiver-attackers (RA) youth elite volleyball players from the French national team participated in this study. This cross-sectional study analyzed the ball and arm speeds while serving over two consecutive weeks. A total of 150 valid power speed serves (ball speed = 103.0 ± 7.0 km h −1 ; arm speed = 40.0 ± 4.2 km h −1 ) were recorded during the six training sessions using a radar-gun and an inertial measurement unit. Ball speed varied from 90 to 110 km h −1 , while the coefficient of variation ranged from 1.5% to 7.5%. Arm speed varied between 35 and 45 km h −1 , while the coefficient of variation ranged between 2 and 14%. One-way ANOVA revealed significant differences among playing positions for the variables of ball speed ( p = 0.018), arm speed ( p = 0.019) and ratio of ball to arm speed ( p = 0.002). Very large correlations between arm speed and the ratio of ball speed to arm speed were found ( r = −0.77 [−0.83; −0.69]; p ≤ 0.001). The results suggest that players reduce their variability regarding the outcome. Finally, despite being related, the velocity of the arm and ball were not perfectly correlated. Thus, measuring both the arm and ball velocity may be necessary.

    Abstract: Field-based tests are important since they can guarantee ecological validity. Although most such tests are designed to assess physical fitness, tactical and technical dimensions are also determinants in a full battery of tests. Objectives This systematic review aimed to (a) summarize the criterion validity and reliability of technical and tactical field-based tests applied in soccer and (b) list valid and reliable technical and tactical field-based tests. Methods A systematic review of EBSCO, PubMed, Scielo, SPORTDiscus, and Web of Science databases was performed according to PRISMA guidelines. The eligibility criteria included (i) population (soccer players from any age group, competitive level, or sex); (ii) exposure (exposure to technical and/or tactical field-based tests covering individual technical skills, tactical behaviours, tactical knowledge, and decision-making in the field); (iii) comparator (a laboratory test and/or a criterion field-based test); (iv) outcome (measures of reliability); and (v) no restrictions concerning study design. The synthesis of results focused on the outcomes considered in the eligibility criteria. Results A total of 5008 titles were identified, of which 21 met the eligibility criteria. Eight studies’ analyses centred on tactical tests. Of those, six studies tested the same instrument (FUT-SAT), one study examined divergent thought, and one study used a soccer-specific skills test Among the 10 included studies involving technical tests, only two repeated the same test (the Loughborough Soccer Passing Test). Three studies included tests concurring with physical ones. According to the main findings, the eight studies that used tactical tests revealed that the outcomes obtained from the tests and observers were reliable. The 10 studies that used technical tests, as well as the three concurrent studies, revealed similarly high reliability. Of the eight studies that used tactical tests, seven involved youth participants. Furthermore, three of the 10 studies that conducted technical tests were done on adults. Of the concurrent tests, three involved youth athletes. Only one study including a tactical analysis presented values for validity, while three others provided information about validity. The four studies provided information about test validity. Conclusions Overall, the selected technical and tactical tests, most of which were carried out on youth players, revealed their validity and reliability. Although most studies focused on reliability (which was confirmed regardless of the test included), criterion validity was also observed in the few studies that analysed such factors. Thus, the tests currently proposed for assessing technical and tactical behaviours possess acceptable criterion validity and reliability.

    Abstract: This article presents a new type of bi-material coin with a polymer centre and a metal ring. The polymer-metal coin is fabricated by combination of coin minting and joining by forming in a single die stroke. The design of the coin is based on an analytical model built upon plasticity theory and plastic instability of circular plates under uniform radial edge compression. The analytical model and the bi-material coin concept are supported and validated by means of finite element modelling and experimentation. Destructive tests for pushing the polymer centre out of the metal ring demonstrate the effectiveness of the mechanical joint resulting from the interface contact pressure between the polymer and the metal. The new bi-material coin was developed to obtain new aesthetic effects for the collection market, and its polymer core can additionally be used for other applications such as the incorporation of advanced security features in high-denomination coins.

    Abstract: Vascular access dysfunction and the depletion of access pathways are complications associated with morbidity and mortality in dialysis patients. As described in the literature, catheter insertion through small collateral veins or recanalized cervical and thoracic veins is an attractive option. Case Description: This article reports a case in which a collateral vein in the abdominal region was used as an access for hemodialysis. Conclusion: After multiple attempts with fistulas and catheters, the left abdominal wall collateral network proved to be a successful access site. Using unconventional veins can be an alternative in these patients.
