    Description: A compact neutron spectrometer based on the liquid scintillator is presented for neutron energy spectrum measurements at the HL-2A Tokamak. The spectrometer was well characterized and a fast digital pulse shape discrimination software was developed using the charge comparison method. A digitizer data acquisition system with a maximum frequency of 1 MHz can work under an environment with a high count rate at HL-2A Tokamak. Specific radiation and magnetic shielding for the spectrometer were designed for the neutron spectrum measurement at the HL-2A Tokamak. For pulse height spectrum analysis, dedicated numerical simulation utilizing NUBEAM combined with GENESIS was performed to obtain the neutron energy spectrum. Subsequently, the transportation process from the plasma to the detector was evaluated with Monte Carlo calculations.     Description: The spatial structures of magnetic Co nanowire array embedded in anodic aluminium membranes were investigated by grazing incidence small angle X-ray scattering (GISAXS) and conventional small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) techniques. Compared with SEM observation, the GISAXS and SAXS measurements can get more overall structural information in a large-area scale. In this study, the two-dimensional GISAXS pattern was well reconstructed by using the IsGISAXS program. The results demonstrate that the hexagonal lattice formed by the Co nanowires is distorted ( a ≈105 nm, b ≈95 nm). These Co nanowires are isolated into many structure domains with different orientations with a size of about 2 μm. The SAXS results have also confirmed that the nanopore structures in the AAM can be retained after depositing Co nanowires although the Co nanowires can not completely but only just fill up the nanopores.     Description: The cricket is a truculent insect with stiff and sharp teeth as a fighting weapon. The structure and possible biomineralization of cricket teeth are always interesting. Synchrotron radiation X-ray fluorescence, X-ray diffraction, and small angle X-ray scattering techniques were used to probe the element distribution, possible crystalline structures and size distribution of scatterers in cricket teeth. A scanning electron microscope was used to observe the nanoscaled structure. The results demonstrate that Zn is the main heavy element in cricket teeth. The surface of a cricket tooth has a crystalline compound like ZnFe 2 (AsO 4 ) 2 (OH) 2 (H 2 O) 4 . The interior of the tooth has a crystalline compound like ZnCl 2 , which is from the biomineralization.     Description: The surface contamination layer on mirrors can cause significant degradation of the optical performance, which is widely observed in applications, particularly in the fabrication of X-ray focusing telescopes. In this paper, we study the natural contamination layer arising from adsorption precipitation of hydrocarbons or other organic and water molecules in the absence of any external factor. Temporal evolution of the layer formed on super-smooth fused silica, borosilicate glass, and silicon substrates is studied by X-ray reflectometry, atomic force microscopy, and transmission electron microscopy for a one-year period after surface cleaning. The general characteristics of adhesion layer growth are established and discussed. The reconstructed dielectric constant profiles demonstrate that an increase in the adhesion layer thickness, deposited mass and density over time obeys power laws with extremely small exponents.
