Summary A report is given about thermo-electric investigations in cryoretinopexie. Temperatures in the rabbit's eye were measured by means of an apparatus based on the principle of the resistance with semiconductors. The loss of temperature was measured by application to the sclera of −40, −80, −120 and −160° C during 10, 20, 30 and 40 seconds. Neither on the frontside of the cornea nor on the conjunctiva there was detected a lack of temperature. The refrigeration in the anterior chamber was found of no importance. The most distinct descent of temperature was measured in the middle of the periphery of the vitreous body (middle between the center of the vitreous body and the point of cold application). There was a loss of temperature of 31,0°C by application to the sclera −160° C/40 seconds. At all other 7 measure points the descent was much smaller. With the exception of the point of cold application and its nearest surrounding the temperature at all of the other intraoculare points choosen for the thermo-electric investigations was never reaching the freezing-point of water.
Notes:
