Abstract: Investigations on triatomids behaviour in the counties Guaira and Sertãozinho of São Paulo State, Brazil, are presented. Precipitin tests showed differents blood meals in Triatoma sordida, and mainly from avian source in Rhodnius neglectus. Nevertheless it was probably due to opportunities and not to any hematofagous preference on birds or mammals. Investigation at artificial ecotopes, represented by houses and outbuildings, showed common invasion of these dwellings by Triatoma sordida and, in a very scarce manner, by Rhodnius neglectus. This leads at the conclusion that the first bug are moving to search more stable ecotopes, represented by human dwellings, because the dry trees and fences are instable ones, where the blood sources are much more scarce. Beside this, passive transportation was demonstrated by founding nymphs and adults of T. sordida in dry woods piles, and first nymphs, between feathers of sparrows (Passer domesticus). Instalations of artificial chickenhouses were made, and only a positive result was obtained with Rhodnius neglectus. The conclusion was that distance play an important role concerning this bug. Nevertheless, the atraction of the human dwellings it seems to be more efficient for T. sordida and so, the domestic animal shelters will become concentration places for this bug. So a following increase of indoor density of T. sordida is expected.

Abstract: Studies on industrial relations in Portugal have not paid much attention to the roleof the latest information and communication technologies. In seeking to help fillthis gap, this article characterises the use of the Internet by Portuguese trade unions,by presenting a typology of theirwebsites and determining whether there arestatistically significant associations between that typology and each union’s membershipof the main national confederations. The authors base themselves on theprinciple that the fragmented nature of the trade union structure in Portugal leadsto different communication strategies. The conclusion sets out a number of hypothesesthat may help explain the results of the present study.

Abstract: A local distribution pattern of Triatoma sordida and Rhodnius neglectus is described after an intensive investigation on natural and artificial ecotopes. The work was carried in a region at north of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. Measures of dispersion pattern were made by the Morisita's indices showing contagious distributions to both bugs. The T. sordida population was clumped at houses and surrounding dwellings, while R. neglectus presented the same aspect but relater to palm trees. The first bug showed ubiquity patter including palms, dry trees and fences. These last two situations are not favourable for obtaining blood meals, who are much more easy obtained at human dwellings. By other side, the investigations at areas with more dense vegetation like bush, resulted in very few T. sordida and none R. neglectus, probably owing of other populations competition as predators reduvids bugs, found there with great density. So it seems logic remove that competition and triatomids remains free to increase in the residual ecotopes. From these, T. sordida is atracted to houses where the bugs may will found more available blood meals, and so the distribution pattern becomes contagious at these places characterizing the invasive aspect at these places. Beside this, the elimination of the early Triatoma infestans populations from dwellings by insecticide spraying (BHC), becomes vacant an ecological niche that seems, in this case, to be occupied by T. sordida. On the contrary, R. neglectus, specialized at palm trees, may found easily blood meals represented by birds and mammals nests and so, the contagious distribution is restricted at these ecotopes with little or even no tendence to invade houses. The persistence of Trypanosoma cruzi in the area was detected both by triatomids naturally infected found in dwellings and by positive xenodiagnosis obtained in Rattus norvegicus captured there. So, the possibility of increase of local transmission rate is emphasized.

Abstract: An endemic area of cutaneous leishmaniasis in the State of S. Paulo, Brazil, is described. Clinical aspects of human cases showed few lesions with slow evolution and few parasites. From investigations on natural infections of local sylvatic mammals by skin cultures technique ensued three strains isolations from Akodon arviculoides and Oryzomys nigripes rodents. Two of these showed to infect hamsters experimentally, but with discrete cutaneous manifestations and few parasites. This aspect seems to be alike the behaviour of "slow" strain, who was included in the possibility of the mucocutaneous leishmaniasis etiology. The presence of sylvatic enzootic forms of the disease is concluded.

Abstract: Natural infection of silvatic rodent Oryzomys capito laticeps in an enzootic focus of cutaneous leishmaniasis in S. Paulo State, Brazil, is reported. The infection was due to the Leishmania braziliensis braziliensis and identification was reached by experimental inoculation of the isolated strain in hamsters. By the first time that rodent is incriminated as natural reservoir of the mucocutaneous form of leishmaniasis.

ABSTRACTObjective: The aim of this study was to identify the clinical data of patients enrolled in the HiperDia, to determine the prevalence of associated diseases and the occurrence of risk factors in order to trace the epidemiological profile of users in the city of HiperDia Itajubá, State of Minas Gerais. Materials and Methods: It was used as a research tool the program registration forms HiperDia of people living in Itajubá city. It was used descriptive statistics to better understand the results. The collected data were entered into the Microsoft Office Excel 2007, using statistical functions to obtain the percentage, with the error population of each variable. Were also conducted "chi-square" test (nonparametric) compared to concomitant risk factors and binomial test. Results: The most relevant risk factors were family history (64,2%) and sedentary lifestyle (54,2%) and among the diseases, the most relevant is hypertension arterial (85,6%), followed by diabetes type II (30,4%). Regarding the presence of complications, Acute Myocardial Infarction followed by Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA) were the most outstading. It was observed that a number, even small, of people seeking the services of the Health System already have complications and have risk factors for hypertension and diabetes. Conclusion: It is still necessary to take measures for improvement of prevention programs; diagnose thepathology so early; reduce risk factors, sensitizing the population on such diseases and healthy lifestyles.  Key words: Diabetes, Hypertension, Public Health

Abstract: Attempts to detect artificial ecotopes invasion by sylvatic triatomids bugs are related. Experimental chickenhouses were built. Inside areas with natural populations of Triatoma sordida and T. arthurneivai. Invasive action of both triatomids was observed but only T. sordida colonized spontaneously in a definitive manner. Colonies of this bug showed great stability with the presence of the sylvatic population. This one was detected by the use of resting traps for atracting bugs. These was represented by simple hiding-place made with two forty centimeters length and ten width jointed boards, placed at several situations, manly on trees stemps. The probably limiting factors of competitive populations as predator reduvids, was confirmed with these observations. It seems that the alteration of natural ambient is quite favorable for Triatoma sordida. So, the possibility of increasing human dwellings infestation by this bug is considered.

Abstract: Studies about permanence of Triatoma sordida after temporary alteration of the local vegetation are related. Results reached showed a bug resistence to the devastation of shrubby vegetation by fire. An attempt is made for to relate this particular aspect with species distribution in the S. Paulo State, Brazil. There are some analogies between the available data about this and the development of agrarian activities. Beside the climatic one, this factor may be considered as favorable to the Triatoma sordida dispersion, by the natural environmental alteration who if follows.
