Kurzfassung:
Plasma physics is the study of collective phenomena involving vast numbers of charged particles, usually in the presence of a magnetic field and usually distributed so that the net charge density is very small compared to the density of charges of either sign. Dwight Nicholson' s book Introduction to Plasma Theory is an educational treasury of the conceptual foundations and mathematical methodology of modern theoretical plasma physics. The book is primarily intended for classroom use at the first‐year and second‐year graduate level and is well written for this purpose in that individual topics are introduced at the lowest possible level of sophistication but subsequently developed in an increasingly mathematical way. The book is well supplied with literature citations, exercises, problems, and hints for solution. It is also well indexed for use as a reference book, a lthough it is not primarily intended forth is purpose.
