Abstract:
Five accessions of snap bean (UENF 1429, UENF 1432, UENF 1442, UENF 1445 and UENF 1448) and their diallelic F1 hybrids were evaluated for general and specific combining ability in randomized complete block design with fifteen replications. Due to variation caused by the loss of plots, the Griffing's Methodology (1956) for unbalanced diallel was used, according to Martins Filho et al. (1992). Mean square values of the general combining ability were highly significant, at 1% of probability, for the F test, for all evaluated traits. For specific combining ability of mean number of seeds per pod and mean insertion of the first pod were not significant. Based on the g i results, the accessions UENF 1429, UENF 1442 and UENF 1445 were indicated for using 'per se'. The hybrids UENF 1429 x UENF 1432, UENF 1429 x UENF 1445, UENF 1432 x UENF 1445 and UENF 1445 x UENF 1448 have potential to obtain superior genotypes.
