Description: P-n junction BiOBr/ZnO composites were prepared by a facile solvothermal process with double Br sources of CTAB and KBr. The samples were characterized by XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, HRTEM, DRS, BET and PL. The BiOBr/ZnO composites exhibited much higher photocatalytic activity than single BiOBr and ZnO for the degradation of phenol under simulated sunlight irradiation. The enhanced photocatalytic activity of BiOBr/ZnO composites could be mainly ascribed to the high-efficiency separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs through BiOBr/ZnO p-n junction. The reaction mechanism for the removal of phenol was also discussed. Hole and ·OH were the main reactive species. Moreover, the influence of disparate ratios of double Br sources to BiOBr/ZnO composites was also investigated. The results indicated that the BiOBr/ZnO composites prepared by double Br sources showed better photocatalytic activities than the sample prepared by single Br source. P-n junction BiOBr/ZnO composites were prepared by a facile solvothermal process with double Br sources and the composites exhibited higher photocatalytic activity than BiOBr and ZnO for the degradation of phenol, which could be ascribed to two reasons. One reason may be the high efficient separation of photogenerated electron-hole pairs through BiOBr/ZnO p-n junction. Another one would be the high surface area achieved by adjusting the content of CTAB.

Description: This paper presents a hybrid model for early onset prediction of driver fatigue, which is the major reason of severe traffic accidents. The proposed method divides the prediction problem into three stages, that is, SVM-based model for predicting the early onset driver fatigue state, GA-based model for optimizing the parameters in the SVM, and PCA-based model for reducing the dimensionality of the complex features datasets. The model and algorithm are illustrated with driving experiment data and comparison results also show that the hybrid method can generally provide a better performance for driver fatigue state prediction.

Description: A large number of half-Heusler compounds have been recently proposed as three-dimensional (3D) topological insulators (TIs) with tunable physical properties. However, no transport measurements associated with the topological surface states have been observed in these half-Heusler candidates due to the dominating contribution from bulk electrical conductance. Here we show that, by reducing the mobility of bulk carriers, a two-dimensional (2D) weak antilocalization (WAL) effect, one of the hallmarks of topological surface states, was experimentally revealed from the tilted magnetic field dependence of magnetoconductance in a topologically nontrivial semimetal LuPdBi. Besides the observation of a 2D WAL effect, a superconducting transition was revealed at Tc ~ 1.7 K in the same bulk LuPdBi. Quantitative analysis within the framework of a generalized BCS theory leads to the conclusion that the noncentrosymmetric superconductivity of LuPdBi is fully gapped with a possibly unconventional pairing character. The co-existence of superconductivity and the transport signature of topological surface states in the same bulk alloy suggests that LuPdBi represents a very promising candidate as a topological superconductor. Description: In this paper, we extend the deterministic single-group MSIRS epidemic model to a multi-group model, and we also extend the deterministic multi-group framework to a stochastic one and formulate it as a stochastic differential equation. In the deterministic multi-group model, the basic reproduction number R0 is a threshold that completely determines the persistence or extinction of the disease. By using Lyapunov function techniques, we show that if R0〉1, then the disease will prevail, the infective condition persists and the endemic state is asymptotically stable in a feasible region. If R0⩽1, then the infective condition disappears and the disease dies out. For the stochastic version, we perform a detailed analysis on the asymptotic behavior of the stochastic model, which also depends on the value of R0, when R0〉1, we determine the asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium by measuring the difference between the solution and the endemic equilibrium of the deterministic model in time-averaged data. Numerical methods are used to illustrate the dynamic behavior of the model and to solve the systems.

Description: Purpose To investigate the diffusion abnormalities in the brain of children with idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE) with generalized tonic-clonic seizure (GTCS) by using diffusion kurtosis imaging (DKI). Materials and Methods Twenty-one IGE children with GTCS and 16 controls were recruited. DKI was performed and maps of radial diffusivity (λ ⊥ ), axial diffusivity (λ // ), mean diffusivity (MD), fractional anisotropy (FA), radial kurtosis (K ⊥ ), axial kurtosis (K // ) and mean kurtosis (MK) were calculated. Voxel-based analyses were employed to compare diffusion metrics in epilepsy versus the controls. Results In the case group, MD was found significantly higher in the right temporal lobe, the right occipital lobe, hippocampus, and some subcortical regions, while FA increased in bilateral supplementary motor area and the left superior frontal lobe (false discovery rate corrected P  〈 0.05). Analysis of λ ⊥ and λ // showed that the increased MD was mainly due to the elevated λ // . Significantly decreased MK was also detected in bilateral temporo-occipital regions, the right hippocampus, the left insula, the left post-central area, and some subcortical regions (false discovery rate corrected P  〈 0.05). In most regions the changed MK were due to the decreased K // . Conclusion The kurtosis parameters (K ⊥ , K // , and MK) reflect different microstructural information in the IGE children with GTCS, and this support the value of DKI in studying children GTCS. J. Description: Both direct current (DC) and alternating current (AC) driving electroluminescence were obtained from isotype heterojunction ( n-i-n : n-ZnO/i-HfO 2 /n-GaN) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) fabricated by a pulsed laser deposition system. The n-ZnO film maintained the same growth orientation as the n-GaN film and was of high crystalline quality even on a polycrystalline high- k HfO 2 thin film. The as-produced n-i-n LEDs can emit strong visible light or dominant ultraviolet light at ∼392 nm, depending on the polarity of the applied DC voltages. The individual spectrum under either forward or reverse bias can be integrated to one spectrum by applying 50 Hz AC driving voltages (sinusoidal signals). More importantly, near white-light can be obtained by tuning the symmetric driving AC sinusoidal signals to the asymmetric ones. This simple and facile method only by applying AC asymmetric signals to achieve white light emission on one single chip may provide an easy route for the white-light solid-state lighting industry.
