Kurzfassung: Periodontal disease is an infectious inammatory disease related to the destruction of supporting tissues of the teeth, leading to a functional loss of the teeth. Inammatory molecules present in the exudate are catalyzed and form different metabolites that can be identied and quantied. With recent advances in mass spectrometry technology, metabolomics research is now widely conducted in various research elds. Periodontology has made signicant advances in both therapeutic applications and research. Metabolomics, also termed as metabolomic analysis, is a technology that enables the comprehensive analysis of small molecule metabolites in living organisms. With the development of metabolite analysis, methods using gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, liquid chromatography–mass spectrometry, capillary electrophoresis–mass spectrometry, etc. have progressed, making it possible to analyze a wider range of metabolites and to detect metabolites at lower concentrations. This review attempts to better understand the arising need for metabolites for better diagnosis and treatment of periodontitis.

Kurzfassung: Graphene is a two-dimensional single layer with hexagonal configuration. Graphene was building block of graphitic carbon molecule include graphite, diamond, nanoribbons and fullerenes. Its potential applications including various biomedical applications such as drug delivery carriers, imaging agents, biosensors, bimolecular analysis, and tissue engineering scaffolds. Graphene oxide facilitates connection with various materials including polymers, biomolecules, DNA, and proteins. Graphene, when combined with other compounds, showed improved synergistic antimicrobial, antibiofilm, and antiadhesive properties. Graphene is the most biocompatible scaffolds for Mesenchymal stem cells adhesion, proliferation, and differentiation. Application of graphene inhibits periodontal pathogens responsible for periodontitis. Other application includes tissue engineering, coated dental implants, barrier membrane, irrigant in endodontics, adhesive in restorative dentistry. This article aimed to focus on importance of graphene, antibacterial effects and tissue engineering scaffolds.

Kurzfassung: The impact of tobacco on health status is boundless. Smoking tobacco is responsible for various diseases including cancer, cardiovascular disease, pulmonary disease, periodontal disease etc. Smoking has been identied as a major risk factor in the development and progression of periodontal disease. Smoking cessation reduces the risk of many diseases. However cravings and withdrawal syndromes have been associated with smoking relapse. Thus exercise plays a signicant role in the management of tobacco withdrawal symptoms and cravings that anticipate smoking relapse.
