Notes: [Auszug] This question is also of interest for another reason. Since both cellulose and chitin are jB-glucosides, it is possible that the same enzyme could hydrolyse both; that is, the cellulase found by Ray in Limnoria could be a general 5-glucosidase capable of splitting chitin also. In an attempt to ...

Notes: Summary 1. Replication of DNA in the epidermis of the crayfish was found to be correlated with the molting cycle. A distinct14C-thymidine incorporation peak was found in mid-premolt stages D1″ and D1‴. 2. Injected ecdysterone (2 μg/g body weight) had effects on DNA synthesis which varied with the stages of the molting cycle. It stimulated14C-thymidine incorporation in postmolt stage C1, intermolt stages C3−C4, and premolt stage D1′, but had no significant effect during any subsequent premolt stage and during early postmolt stage B. Ecdysterone induced a peak at stage D1′ that was essentially equal in magnitude to the normal peak at stage D1‴.
