Notes: [Auszug] Molecular processes that govern pathogenic features of erythrocyte invasion and cytoadherence in malaria are reliant on Plasmodium-specific Duffy-binding-like domains (DBLs). These cysteine-rich modules recognize diverse host cell-surface receptors during pathogenesis. DBLs of parasite ...

Description: Extraordinary transmittance and focusing of light in quasi far field region using miniaturized optical devices is a daunting task. A polarization independent, broadband, planar metallic transmissive micro aperture capable of achromatically focusing visible light in quasi far field region is proposed. The calculated enhancement factor of transmission efficiency was about ~2.2. The total transmission after the aperture is about 60%. This high throughput focusing device will open new avenues for focusing electromagnetic energy in the wide area of sensors and energy concentration. Scientific Reports 4 doi: 10.1038/srep05586

Description: Author(s): Ashutosh Jain, Binay Singh, Saurabh Garg, N. Ravishankar, Michael Lane, and Ganpati Ramanath We report an experimental approach to partition the fracture energy of a metal-ceramic interface into work of adhesion and plasticity, unveiling the nanomechanics of interfacial deformation and fracture. We obviate crack path uncertainties by constraining fracture to occur in an interfacial nanomole... [Phys. Rev. B 83, 035412] Published Thu Jan 20, 2011
