    Description: In der vorliegenden Arbeit werden geologische Prozesse im Untergrund des linksrheinischen Rhenoherzynikums und deren Verhältnis zum regionaltektonischen Rahmen anhand der Proben aus der Aachener Geothermie- Bohrung mit dem Schwerpunkt des Fluid- und Stofftransportes untersucht. Die methodische Vorgehensweise basiert auf einer systematischen und detaillierten Bestandsaufnahme der Paläofluide in Form von Flüssigkeitseinschlüssen an Kernmaterial der Bohrung. Im Aachener Raum wurden Untersuchungen von Flüssigkeitseinschlüssen hauptsächlich an postvariszischen Pb-Zn-Gangvorkommen durchgeführt. Die Homogenisierungstemperaturen (Th) von NaCl-CaCl2-Lösungen unterschiedlicher Salinität liegen zwischen 70°C und maximal 190°C (Redecke 1992, Stroink 1993, Muchez et al. 1994, Glasmacher 1995). Für die tektonischmetallogentische Entwicklung des Rheinischen-Schiefergebirges können generell zwei Fluid-Aktivitätsperioden unterschieden werden (Behr et al. 1993). Die im Zuge der variszischen Gebirgsbildung synkinematische Defluidisierung des Orogenkörpers generierte das Fluid-System der ‚Tectonic Brines‘ (1). Diese sind Na-(K)-Cl-betonte Lösungen geringer Salinität mit CO2, CH4 und N2 sowie durch Th 〈 350°C gekennzeichnet. Im Gegensatz dazu wurden die meisten postvariszischen Ganglagerstätten des Rheinischen- Schiefergebirges durch ‚Basement Brines‘ (2) gebildet. Diese sind Ca- Na-Cl-Lösungen hoher Salinität mit Th 〈 250°C (Behr et al. 1993).

    Notes: We propose to utilize glass plates coated with indium tin oxide (ITO) as far-infrared dichroic mirrors, e.g., in optoelectronic terahertz spectroscopy for purposes such as electro-optic detection of terahertz radiation or in time-resolved experiments with pump pulses in the visible or near-infrared spectral range and probe pulses at terahertz frequencies. Measurements of the complex reflection and transmission coefficients in the spectral range from 0.1 to 2.8 THz indicate that commercially available ITO glass is suitable for this purpose. © 2002 American Institute of Physics.

    Notes: A B cell line derived from a human nodular lymphocytic lymphoma (Brill-Symmers) was shown to be dependent on the presence of a low molecular weight B cell growth factor (BCGF) for its growth in vitro. The caryotype was normal and no contamination with Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) could be detected. These cells did not respond to recombinant gamma interferon or to recombinant human interleukin 2 (IL-2), although they displayed a weak density of IL-2 receptor sites. They were both responsive to and dependent on BCGF for their multiplication in vitro. Furthermore, the putative receptor for this growth factor (CD23) was detected on these cells and the BCGF-dependent proliferation could be blocked by a monoclonal anti-CD23 antibody. A tumour-derived cell line like this provides an interesting model for studying the mechanisms regulating B cell growth and the early events leading to the process of B cell immortalization.

    Notes: The enhancement of the lytic capacity of mouse splenic ‘natural killer’ (NK) cells by interferon has been studied in vitro as a model for NK cell differentiation from inactive immediate precursors. We show that the increased cytotoxicity is a function of interferon concentration, and that two stages in the NK cell differentiation pathway can be distinguished. The first, very brief, can he performed at 0°C and without protein synthesis and probably corresponds to the fixation of interferon on its cell surface receptors. The second, resulting from the inductive signal given by interferon, proceeds for several hours and requires both RNA and protein synthesis. Our results also indicate that target cells for interferon-induced cytotoxicity are cells for interferon-induced cytotoxicity arc cells with ‘null’ characteristics, similar to the mature NK cells. Finally, they suggest that no soluble Intermediary factor other than interferon is involved in the enhancing of NK cell cytotoxicity.

    Notes: The effect of β2-adrenoceptor agonists and interleukin-4 (IL-4) on the CD23 expression on, and release from, the human promonocytic cell line, U 937, was investigated. As assessed by flow cytometry, incubation of U 937 cells in the presence of salbutamol, fenoterol or IL-4 induced a concentration- and time-dependent increase in CD23 expression, that was maximal after 48 hr and followed by a decrease thereafter. In addition, salbutamol potentiated the effect of IL-4, the optimal concentration of the drug being a function of the concentration of this cytokine. This synergy between IL-4 and β2-adrenoceptor agonists was also observed for the release of the soluble form of CD23. The effect on CD23 expression of salbutamol and fenoterol, but not of IL-4, was blocked in the Wesence of d, l-propranolol (1 μm) or butoxamine (1 μm). The α-adrenoceptor agonist, norepinephrine (1 μm), was ineffective in inducing CD23 expression or potentiating the one evoked by IL-4. Salbutamol down-regulated the expression of FcγRI (CD64) and Fc, RII (CD32) whereas IL-4 was ineffective. Only when added together at the onset of the culture did salbutamol and IL-4 induce, after 48 hr, the expression of the monocyte marker, CD 14. The expression of CD 18 was up-regulated in response to salbutamol either alone or in combination with IL-4, this cytokine alone being inefficient. These data suggest that IL-4 and β2-adrenoceptor agonists induce differentiation of U 937 cells into monocyte-like cells.
