Notes: Abstract In this paper, we present a new kind of millimeter wave sensor which is constituted by double-strip H-wave-guide. This sensor has some major advantages such as big size, simple structure and good measurement performance. It is particularly suitable for measuring humidities of pellet materials at microwave band.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, two kinds of elliptic-groove waveguides are presented. One of them has never been studied before. With the help of Mathieu function and mode-matching method, the field components and characteristic equation of the elliptic-groove waveguides are obtained for the first time. Then their dispersion characteristics for the dominant mode i.e. the mode TE e11 1 are also studied. The gotten conclusions have very important values in theoretical study and actual application for the two kinds of the elliptic-groove waveguides.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, the dispersion characteristics of elliptic-and parabolic-groove guides are analysed by using the equivalent network method with rectangular step approximation. The results have important values in the studying of the transmission characteristics of curvilineal-groove guides as well as its manufacture and application.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, a new type of horizontal-flat and vertical-flat closed elliptic-groove guides is firstly presented. The field components and characteristic equations for some main transmission modes of the closed elliptic-groove guides are derived by with the help of the mode-matching method and Mathieu function. The variations of the cut-off wavelengths along with eccentricities, widths and lengths of the parallel plates for a number of lower order transmission modes of the closed elliptic-groove guides are also analysed in detail. The calculated results in good agreement with ones in the relevant references are of very important values in theoretical researches and actual applications of closed elliptic-groove guides for millimeter and submillimeter waves.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, the transmission characteristics for the dominant mode H e 11 (1) in the vertical-flat elliptic-groove guide are analysed by using the mode-matching method and Mathieu function. The characteristic equations with the 1st and 2nd order approximations and their solutions for the dominant mode of the elliptic-groove guide are also obtained by a great quantity of theoretical analyses and numerical computations. The cut-off, dispersion and attenuation characteristics are in good agreement with those in the relevant references under limiting conditions and are discussed in detail. The obtained results are of important significance for theoretical researches and actual applications of elliptic-groove guides for millimeter and submillimeter waves.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, the dominant mode in groove guide is analyzed by finite element method. For the guide with a shallow groove, the electric field lines (abbreviated as E lines) are perpendicular to the parallel plate, which is different from the literatures, and the dominant mode distribution is irrelevant to the groove width; for the guide with a narrow but deeper groove, the E lines are parallel to the plate region, which represents the characteristics of lower attenuation, for the guide with a deeper and wider groove, a complicated E lines are obtained. These results reveal that the dominant mode distribution in groove guide is varied, which replenish our understanding of groove guide, and the results have important values in design, manufacture, and application of groove guide.

Notes: Abstract The transmission characteristics of the mode TE11 for a new type of closed trapezoidal-groove guide with arbitrary inclined angle are analysed in detail with the mode-matching method in this paper. The calculated results are in good agreement with the experimental values in the published reference. The dispersion of the closed trapezoidal-groove guide is very low. The relationships of the cut-off wavelength and the attenuation constant with the structural sizes of the closed trapezoidal-groove waveguide are also obtained. The given results have very important value in study, design, manufacture and application for closed trapezoidal-groove waveguide.

Notes: Abstract In this paper, the several kinds of the novel curve-shaped groove guides including the whole elliptic-, whole cosine- and hyperbolic-groove guides as the new millimeter wave transmission lines are presented. The dispersion, cut-off and band characteristics of the dominant mode for the several kinds of the curve-shaped groove guides are analysed by using the equivalent network method with transverse resonance. The obtained results have important values in their theoretical studies and actual applications of the curve-shaped groove waveguides.
