    Ctenochaetus marginatus (Valenciennes) (Pisces: Acanthuridae) en la Isla de Gorgona: Primer registro del género para el Pacífico colombiano (2010)

    Description: The genus Ctenochaetus is reportad in the waters of the Colombian Pacific based on two specimens of C. marginatus (Valenciennes) collected in 1993 at Gorgona Island (2°59' N, 78° 12' W). These specimens differ inseveral morphometric characteristics from thosepreviously examined. Such differences appear to be an artifact of the small number of specimens formerly examined and the consequent narrow ranges reportad. We suggest that temperature variability affects the distribution of C. marginatus in the tropical eastern Pacific.
    Description: El género es Ctenochaetus reportad en las aguas del Pacífico colombiano a partir de dos especímenes de C. marginatus (Valenciennes) recogidos en 1993 en la Isla Gorgona (2 ° 59 'N, 78 ° 12' W). Estos ejemplares difieren inseveral características morfométricas de thosepreviously examinados. Estas diferencias parecen ser un artefacto del pequeño número de muestras examinadas anteriormente y reportad los rangos estrechos consecuente. Sugerimos que la variabilidad de la temperatura afecta la distribución de marginatus C en el Pacífico tropical oriental.

    Description: El género Pavona comprende 18 especies de las cuales Pavona chiriquiensis ha sido recientemente descrita y registrada en varias localidades del Pacífico oriental tropical. A partir de observaciones y colecciones realizadas en arrecifes de las islas Gorgona y Malpelo entre 1999 y 2005 se confirma su presencia en Colombia. El tardío registro de P. chiriquiensis en estas islas pudo ser debido a su similitud y confusión con P. varians, o a su reciente colonización del Pacífico colombiano.
    Description: Pavona The genus includes 18 species of Pavona chiriquiensis which has been recently described and recorded in various locations in the eastern tropical Pacific. Based on observations and collections made reefs of Gorgona and Malpelo islands between 1999 and 2005 confirmed its presence in Colombia. Q. The late registration chiriquiensis in these islands could be due to their similarity and confusion with P. varians, or their recent settlement of the Colombian Pacific.

    Pontinus clemensi (Pisces: Scorpaenidae) at Malpelo Island, Colombia: new specimen and Geographic range extension (2010)

    Description: Pontinus clemensi es una especie descrita con un reducido número de especímenes. En Junio de 1999, un espécimen adicional de P. clemensi fue colectado en la isla Malpelo, Colombia (3º 59' N, 81º 35' W). Este ejemplar permitió ampliar la descripción original de la especie y su ámbito geográfico en el Pacifico Oriental.
    Description: Pontinus clemensi is a species described with a small number of specimens. In June 1999, an additional specimen of P. clemensi was collected at Malpelo Island, Colombia (3 ° 59 'N, 81 º 35' W). This copy it possible to expand the original description of the species and its geographical coverage in the Eastern Pacific.
