Notes: The frequency-domain dielectric spectra of ceramic SrFeO3−x have been measured over wide temperature (100–300 K) and frequency (5 Hz–13 MHz) range. The results have been related to the defect ordering in this compound. The loss peak behavior results from a relaxation process has been identified for the "disordered'' sample, while the anomalous low-frequency dispersion have been observed in the "ordered'' sample.

Notes: Microstructures of materials with composition Sr(Fe1−xNbx)O2.5+y (x=0.17, 0.25, 0.50) have been investigated by powder x-ray diffraction (XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) examinations. XRD data for ceramic samples annealed under different P(O2) conditions could be indexed to a cubic perovskite. Superlattice diffraction spots have been observed by TEM investigation for the samples which were re-equilibrated by a subsequent annealing in a reducing atmosphere. A microdomain model is proposed to describe the observed phenomena. According to the model, the structure of reduced Sr(Fe1−xNbx)O2.5+y with x=0.17, 0.25 is considered to be a result of disordered intergrowth between brownmillerite-type Sr2Fe2O5 domains and perovskite-type Sr(Fe0.5Nb0.5)O3 domains. Brownmillerite-type domains are formed because of vacancy ordering. The order is extremely short ranged. Electron diffraction patterns constructed in terms of this microdomain model agree well with the observed results. The order-disorder transition can be altered by varying ambient oxygen partial pressures. For both ordered and disordered samples the frequency-domain dielectric response as a function of temperature is reported. Directly measured complex conductivity Y(ω) has been transformed by Kramers–Kronig relations in order to subtract the disturbances of G(0) and C(∞). The transformed temperature dependences have been further normalized and re-expressed in the form of master curves. For all the samples measured, the frequency-domain dielectric response deviates from the Debye model but follows the so-called universal power law behavior. The dielectric spectra for the samples in which brownmillerite-type ordering is identified show an anomalous low-frequency dispersion, while for the disordered samples, the relaxation behavior with a loss peak is observed. The variation of spectra shape with composition indicates that increasing Nb content tends to weaken the cooperative many-body interactions and causes the dielectric behavior to approach the Debye model.

Notes: The measurements of saturation magnetization and magnetocrystalline anisotropy for polycrystalline ferromagnetic materials are carried out usually on the basis of the approach to saturation.1,2 We have already suggested a method of determining simultaneously the five coefficients of the approach to saturation expression.3 In order to improve on the measured precision and the determined method, we have done a lot of experimental research on polycrystalline ferrites with various properties, and have performed the computational analysis. The results show that: (i) the curve fitting can be performed successfully over the different regions for H; (ii) the coefficients vary with the H region, so that fitting two or three coefficients step by step is not reasonable; (iii) determining a suitable interval for H values by computational method, the magnetic parameters can be obtained; (iv) the obtained magnetic parameters are in agreement with the data obtained by other experimental methods and theoretical estimations; (v) the physical origins of the coefficients are expounded.〈ks〉

Notes: The characteristic measurements of single and coupled strips on a magnetic microstrip substrate have been done by using the new methods. By using a reflex ring resonator (in the single-strip case) and a quarter-wavelength coupled meander line (in multistrip case), the microstrip wavelength, the phase shift, and attenuation parameters can be determined conveniently and precisely.

Notes: Recently, the finline ferrite devices have attracted people's attention. Beyer et al. have done theoretical and experimental researches for a finline isolator.1,2 In order to make it convenient for theoretical design and experimental adjustment of this device, we have developed a synthetical theory and have carried out the experimental research successfully.3 In this paper, we have done the further theoretical analysis and experimental researches for the finline ferrite isolator, such as the impedance matching, the effects of device structure on performances, and the transplantation of a waveguide isolator to a finline isolator problem. Good agreement between design and experiment is obtained. The performances of a X-band finline isolator are as follows A+〈1.5 dB, A−(approximately-greater-than)18 dB, VSWR〈1.5 in a 8% bandwidth, and the bia-field is lower (about 1000 Oe).〈ks〉

Notes: The dielectric behavior of a solid solution, 10 mol % lead titanate in lead magnesium niobate, vs temperature at different frequencies is measured and analyzed. The shortcomings of the Vogel–Fulcher relationship are discussed. A more reasonable new relationship: ω=ω0 exp[−(T0/Tm)p] is introduced to characterize the relation between the frequency (ω) and the temperature (Tm) at the dielectric constant maximum of the relaxor ferroelectrics. The value of the parameter p in the relationship can be used to characterize the dielectric relaxation strength of relaxor ferroelectrics as well as the relation among the ferroelectrics, the relaxor ferroelectrics, the Debye medium and glass. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: Lanthanum doped lead titanate (PLT) thin films with good surface morphology and perovskite structure were fabricated by the metalo-organic decomposition process. Their nonlinear optical property was investigated by Z-scan technique. PLT30 thin films on the quartz substrate display strong nonlinear optical effects. A nonlinear refractive index as high as 3.0×10−7 esu was obtained for the thin film. All the results show that PLT ferroelectric thin films are promising materials for nonlinear optics. © 1996 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: The region of the (0.9-x)Pb(Zn1/3Nb2/3)O3-0.1BaTiO3-xPbTiO3 (0.0≤x≤0.2) phase diagram was established through analysis of the structure and dielectric behavior associated with changes in temperature and composition. The zero-field spontaneous and field-induced relaxor-normal ferroelectric transitions are reported in this ferroelectric system, and this transition corresponds to the rhombohedral-tetragonal first-order phase switching. From careful measurement of the hystersis loop, it is suggested that the microscopic mechanism of spontaneous polarization of the ferroelectric microregion was further correlated with the phase structure. Thus, the thermal hysteresis of micro–macrodomain transition of relaxor ferroelectrics can be explained very well. © 1998 American Institute of Physics.

Notes: A Mg-ion indiffusion process was applied to the lithium niobate single-crystal substrates deposited with magnesium oxide thin film. By means of x-ray diffraction analysis and differential thermal analysis, we find that the magnesium diffused layer exhibits the crystal structure of an unknown compound of the Mg-Li-Nb-O ternary system. It is proposed, that this unknown compound and MgNb2O6 are the real sources for the Mg-ion indiffusion. The changes in Curie temperature with diffusion parameters such as diffusion temperature, diffusion times, and the thickness of magnesium oxide film are noted. © 1995 American Institute of Physics.
