Abstract:
Summary The authors have studied the degree of the passage of Na24 from the blood to the ventricular and lumbar cerebrospinal fluid in normal human beings and in patients with a ventricular block, during a period up to 52 hours. In every case both in the ventricular and in the lumbar cerebrospinal fluid, the levels of radioactivity, after reaching the equilibrium with the blood, rise until a positive gradient of Na24 in the cerebrospinal fluid is reached. This observation is a proof of an active Na transport performed by the blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier.
Notes:
