Description / Table of Contents:
Notes:
Summary From September 1971 to October 1981 a total of 259 reconstructions of the renal artery were performed in 242 patients. The etiology included arteriosclerosis (147), fibrodysplasia (88), and other causes (7). Operative mortality was 6.8 % in arteriosclerosis patients (indication of organ preservation in 32 patients). There was no mortality in fibrodysplasia patients; total mortality was 4.1 %, late mortality 9.2 %. Six years after operation blood pressure was normal or improved in 96.4 % of patients with fibrodysplasia and in 84.8 % of those with arteriosclerotic stenosis. There is a clear indication for reconstruction of fibrodysplastic stenoses, contrary to the high-risk arteriosclerosis patient.
