    Notizen: Using a simple model, it is shown that, because of the relativistic electron-mass variation, the mode-converted electrostatic electric field exhibits hysteresis in the vicinity of the critical layer. The hysteretic effect will increase the resonance absorption of obliquely incident p-polarized light (electric field vector in the plane of incidence) in a way as to increase the large-amplitude region of the electrostatic field. When the threshold light intensity for the occurance of hysteresis is exceeded, the absorption coefficient can be appreciably above the linear results.

    Notizen: It is shown that the large amplitude Langmuir wave driven by two collinear laser beams with a frequency difference approximately equal to the plasma frequency exhibits bistability and hysteresis. The threshold pump intensity for the occurrence of the bistability is rather low compared to most laser-plasma experiments. By using the hysteretic effect, relatively weak pump intensities can result in a very large amplitude of the Langmuir wave.
