Crystalline Na[SbF5OH] is thermally decomposed yielding a chainlike polymeric fluoroantimonate. Whereas in this reaction only HF is set free, the thermal decomposition of Na[SbF4(OH)2] being only prepared in amorphous state is characterized by generating both HF and H2O.Marignacs salt, NaF · SbOF3 · H2O, formerly regarded as Na[SbF4(OH)2] has been identified to be Na[SbF5OH]. Therefore the X-ray analysis of Marignacs compound carried out by Schrewelius is valid for Na[SbF5]. Similarly, the salt CsF · SbF4OH described by Wells and Metzger is really Cs[SbF6].Because of hydrogen-bonds, Na[SbF5OH] and K[SbF5OH] are not isomorphous with the corresponding hexafluoroantimonates.

Kristallines Na[SbF5OH] reagiert beim Erhitzen unter HF-Abspaltung zu einem kettenförmigen Polymeren, während beim Erhitzen von Na[SbF4(OH)2], das allerdings nur in amorpher Form zur Verfügung stand, Wasser und Fluorwasserstoff abgespalten wird.Das Marignacsche Salz NaF · SbOF3 · H2O ist nicht, wie bisher angenommen, Na[SbF4(OH)2], sondern Na[SbF5OH]. Damit trifft die Röntgenstrukturbestimmung von Schrewelius am Marignacschen Salz für Na[SbF5OH] zu. Infolge von Wasserstoffbrückenbindungen sind Na[SbF5OH] und K[SbF5OH] nicht isomorph mit den entsprechenden Hexafluoroantimonaten. Das von Wells und Metzger beschriebene Salz CsF · SbF4OH enthält keine OH-Gruppen, es besteht aus Cs[SbF6].
