Zusammenfassung In einer Doppelblindstudie wurde bei 11 Lungengesunden und bei 8 Patienten mit chronischer Bronchitis im cross over-Verfahren der Einfluß von Terbutalin auf das mukociliare Klärsystem der Lunge untersucht. Nach Inhalation eines radioaktiven Aerosols (99mTechnetium Schwefelkolloid) wurde das Depositionsmuster durch extern über der Brust aufgesetzte Detektoren bestimmt und die Verschwinderate über 200 min verfolgt. Dabei fand sich sowohl im Normalkollektiv als auch bei den Patienten mit chronischer Bronchitis eine signifikante Beschleunigung der Klärrate unter Terbutalin. Bei vergleichbaren Depositionsmustern und unter der Annahme, daß Terbutalin qualitativ und quantitativ das Bronchialsekret nicht wesentlich beeinflußt, wird daraus auf eine Stimulierung des Ciliarapparates geschlossen.

Abstract In a double blind cross-over study, the effect of terbutaline (5 mg p.o.) on the mucociliary system of the lung was tested in 11 normal subjects and in 8 patients with chronic bronchitis. After inhalation of a radioactive aerosol (99mTechnetium-sulfur colloid), the deposition pattern and the clearance rate up to 200 min were studied. In both groups, a significant increase in the clearance rate was observed following terbutaline compared to the placebo. These findings were interpreted in favour of a positive effect of terbutaline on the ciliary apparatus.
