Description / Table of Contents:
Preparation and Properties of CyclopentadienyldiethylboraneCyclopentadienyldiethylborane, Et2BCp (6), can be liberated from its easily available amine addition compounds 2a, 2b by the action of BF3. According to the 1H n.m.r. spectra of 2a, 2b, and 6, only one tautomeric species is present, with the boron atom in a vinylic position: a 1.5-sigmatropic hydrogen shift occurs during the formation of 2a and 2b. Diels-Alder dimers are formed from 6 already at room temperature with the aid of Lewis acids as catalysts. The synthesis and properties of the methylcyclopentadienyl compound 7 correspond to those of 6. The reaction of 6 with LiBu, Na[BHEt3], or FeCl2, yields LiCp, NaCp, or FeCp2, respectively. A 1:1 addition compound is formed from 6 and Na.
Notes:
