Summary On the basis of model substances, a procedure was studied for the detection in situ of fluorescing substances, which also occur as urine constituents, following paper electrophoresis at pH 8.6. Nanogram amounts of aromatic acids are identified without staining or other treatment with the aid of their spectral properties and the relative electrophoretic mobility (reference substance salicyluric acid). The excitationand emission maxima and the relative mobilities of these aromatic acids were determined. In addition a method is given for testing the fluorescent bands with respect to their homogeneity.

Zusammenfassung An Hand von Modellsubstanzen wird ein Verfahren untersucht, fluoreszierende Substanzen, die auch als Harnbestandteile vorkommen, nach Papierelektrophorese bei pH 8,6 in situ nachzuweisen. Nanogramm-Mengen aromatischer Säuren werden ohne Anfärben oder sonstige Behandlung mit Hilfe ihrer spektralen Eigenschaften und der relativen elektrophoretischen Mobilität (Bezugssubstanz Salicylursäure) identifiziert. Die Anregungs- und Emissionsmaxima und die relativen Mobilitäten dieser aromatischen Säuren werden bestimmt. Ferner wird eine Methode zur Prüfung der fluoreszierenden Banden auf ihre Homogenität angegeben.
