    Notes: Rosacea fulminans is a rare disease with female predominance characterized by abrupt onset of pustules, papules, and confluent nodules on the face. The conventional treatment consists of systemic glucocorticoids and isotretinoin. We present the case of a 56-year-old woman with a marked facial papulopustular eruption that had followed an initial period of severe seborrhoea. Conventional treatment produced no clear improvement. Dapsone treatment achieved complete healing in 5 weeks.

    Notes: The reactivity of hydroxy-indoles under the conditions of the Mannich-reaction has been studied. The electrophilic side-chain enters in each case in a position ortho to the phenolic group. 4-Hydroxy-indole is substituted in the 5-, 5-hydroxy-indole in the 4-, 6-hydroxy-indole in the 7-, and 7-hydroxy-indole probably in the 6-position. The structures of the Mannich bases from 4-, 5- and 6-hydroxy-indole have been confirmed by comparison of the hydroxy-methyl-indoles obtained by reductive desamination with hydroxy-methyl-indoles prepared by unambiguous total synthesis.

    Notes: 4-, 5-, 6- and 7-cyanoindoles are converted in excellent yields into the corresponding formylindoles by sodium hypophosphite/nickel according to the method of BACKEBERG and STASKUN. Condensation of these formylindoles with nitromethane or nitroethane affords the related nitrovinyl-indoles, which are reduced to the aminoalkyl-indoles quoted in the title by means of lithium aluminium hydride.On the other hand, 5-chloroacetyl-indole is aminated by reaction with various secondary amines, and the aminoketones formed are reduced to the corresponding 5-(2-amino-1-hydroxy-alkyl)-indoles. Condensation of 1-acetyl-7-hydroxy-indoline with chloroacetyl chloride according to FRIEDEL-CRAFTS yields the 1-acetyl-4-chloroacetyl-7-hydroxy-indoline, which is transformed into indoline derivatives carrying a 2-amino-1-hydroxyethyl side-chain in position 4.

    Notes: From the alkali-catalysed reaction of thiouracil with bromoacetaldehyde diethyl acetal three products are isolated in nearly the same quantity: 2-(2, 2-diethoxyethylthio)-uracil (2) and two cyclization products: 3, a thiazolo[3, 2-a]pyrimidin-5-one, and 4, athiazolo[3, 2-a]pyrimidin7-one. By warming with acid both 2 and 4 yield 3. Rearrangement of 4 to 3 proceeds also by heating the hydrochloride. Similar cyclizations leading to thiazolo[3, 2-d]pyrrolo[2, 3-d]pyrimidin-5-ones are also described. Bromine substitutes 3 in position 6. The bromo derivative 6 on treatment with primary or secondary amines affords 7-amino compounds.
