Résumé Pendant la période 1882–1928, le médecin scolaire fut occupé à contrôler les organes des sens, à lutter contre les maladies infectieuses et à juger l'état de santé général de ses élèves. A part ces activités, l'éducation en matière d'hygiène joua un rôle considérable. Après la Première Guerre mondiale, on introduisit la prophylaxie contre le goitre. Entre 1928 et la Seconde Guerre mondiale, nous observons une forte extension des services médico-scolaires. Les examens s'étendent aux jardins d'enfants, aux écoles primaires supérieures et professionnelles. La lutte contre la tuberculose est développée. On crée l'assurance pour écoliers. Dans la phase qui s'étend de la fin de la Seconde Guerre mondiale à aujourd'hui, on perfectionne la lutte contre la tuberculose au moyen de la radiophotographie et de la vaccination BCG. Un point culminant de la médecine préventive est marqué par les vaccinations contre la poliomyélite et la rougeole. A cause du danger représenté par les rayons, on abandonne ensuite progressivement la radiophotographie. En même temps, on incorpore la psychiatrie, la psychologie et la pédagogie médicale au service, ou bien on les développe parallèlement. A côté de ses devoirs traditionnels, il est souhaitable que le médecin scolaire cherche à coordonner les branches de service susmentionnées.
Abstract:
Summary In the time between 1882 and 1928 the school doctor was engaged in checking the sensory organs, in controlling infectious diseases and in judging the general state of health of his pupils. Apart from these occupations, health education took an important part. After World War I, goitre prophylaxis was introduced in health services. Between 1928 and World War II we can observe a strong development of medical services for schools. The medical examinations are extended to include kindergarten, high school, and professional schools. Tuberculosis control is expanded. Pupils' insurance is created. From the end of World War II onwards and today there is a further perfection of tuberculosis control through fluorography and BCG inoculation. The peak of preventive medicine is reached with vaccinations for polio and German measles. Because of the radiation load, fluorography has soon got to be abandoned. During the same time psychiatry, psychology, and medical pedagogics are included in the services or developped side by side. Apart from the traditional duties it is sensible for a school doctor to try to coordinate the above mentioned branches of service.

Zusammenfassung In der Phase zwischen 1882 und 1928 beschäftigte sich der Schularzt mit der Überpräfung der Sinnesorgane, mit der Bekämpfung der Infektionskrankheiten und mit der Beurteilung des Allgemeinzustandes seiner Schäler. Neben diesen Aktivitäten spielte die Gesundheitserziehung eine wesentliche Rolle. Nach dem Ersten Weltkrieg wurde die Kropfprophylaxe eingefährt. Im Zeitabschnitt von 1928 bis zum Zweiten Weltkrieg sehen wir einen starken Ausbau der schulärztlichen Dienste. Die Untersuchungen werden auf die Kindergärten, Berufs- und Mittelschulen ausgedehnt. Die Tuberkulosebekämpfung wird erweitert. Die Schälerversicherung wird ins Leben gerufen. In der Phase ab Ende des Zweiten Weltkrieges bis heute zeigt sich eine weitere Perfektion der Tuberkulosebekämpfung mit Schirmbild und BCG-Impfung. Höhepunkt der Präventivmedizin bilden die Impfungen gegen Kinderlähmung und Röteln. Wegen der Strahlenbelastung muss das Schirmbild bald wieder abgebaut werden. Im gleichen Zeitraum werden Psychiatrie, Psychologie und Heilpädagogik in den Dienst aufgenommen oder parallel entwickelt. Neben den herkömmlichen Pflichten ist es sinnvoll, wenn der Schularzt die eben zitierten Dienstzweige zu koordinieren sucht.
