The Polymerisation of styrene catalysed by the soluble catalyst \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$({\rm C}_{\rm 5} {\rm H}_{\rm 5} )_2 {\rm TiCl}_{\rm 2} /{\rm Al(C}_{\rm 2} {\rm H}_{\rm 5} )_2 {\rm Cl}$$\end{document} is kineticlly examined. By using 14C-labelled catalyst component, it can be proved that, given such conditions of reaction, the polymerisation of styrene will be seen almost exclusively by insertion of the monomer between the metal-carbon bond. In view of the kinetical results, the following can be deduced concerning the reaction of polymerisation. In a consecutive reaction of the catalyst, the active species is formed. Styrene being present, the rate formation of active species is proportional to the aluminium alkyl and monomer concentration. It has been shown that the maximal overall polymerisation-rate is proportional to the square of monomer concentration and nearly independent of catalyst concentration. Inactivation of active species occurs by way of three different kinds of termination reactions: termination by active species themselves, by monomer, and by aluminium alkyl. The polymerisation activity is awarded to the following complex, \documentclass{article}\pagestyle{empty}\begin{document}$$ ({\rm C}_{\rm 5} {\rm H}_{\rm 5} )_2 {\rm C}_{\rm 2} {\rm H}_{\rm 5} {\rm TiCl} \cdot {\rm ClAlC}_{\rm 2} {\rm H}_{\rm 5} {\rm Cl,} $$\end{document} or a product being in equilibrium with it.
