Notes: Abstract Neural arch dysplasia of the cervical 4 vertebrae is a rare occurrence. The authors present a case with dysplasia of cervical bodies and posterior arch elements at multiple levels. The embryogenesis of these anomalies is discussed.

Notes: Summary The preoperative diagnosis of abdominal cerebrospinal fluid pseudocyst, in association with ventriculoperitoneal shunts, was made in two patients. Computed tomography and/or ultrasound are radiologicol procedures of choice to demonstrate and localize these cysts.

Notes: Abstract This 53-year-old white male presented with a 4-month-history of weakness and pain. Despite an initial partial response to steroid therapy, his neurologic deterioration progressed culminating in paraparesis, paresthesias, urinary incontinence, altered mentation and a 20 lb weight loss. A gadolinium-enhanced MRI study showed a pattern suggestive of perivascular involvement. A subsequent cerebral biopsy was diagnostic for neurosarcoidosis.

Notes: Summary In discussing mineralization of the falx cerebri many radiology textbooks use the term calcification and make no mention of ossification. A retrospective study of 18 consecutive autopsy cases, in which skull radiographs had revealed mineralization of the falx, was undertaken. These areas of mineralization were excised and submitted for histological evaluation. The density seen on the skull radiograph consisted of membranous bone complete with bone marrow elements in all cases. Two cases had metastatic deposits in the ossified falx and one case showed leukemic infiltration. Some aspects of the pathogenetic mechanisms involved in calcification of the falx are discussed.

Notes: Summary Diastematomyelia is an uncommon congenital anomaly of the spine. Four unusual variations of diastematomyelia are presented. These include (1) double diastematomyelia, (2) adult presentation, (3) diastematomyelia without a septum and unusual termination of two halves of the spinal cord, and (4) recurrence of a fibrous band following removal of an osseous septum.

Notes: Summary Intracranial aneurysms commonly present with subarachnoid hemorrhage. Rarely, they may attain a large size and manifest exclusively as intracranial space-taking lesions. We have collected a series of 48 cases of large aneurysms; 47 of them have been previously unpublished. To our knowledge, this is the largest series on this subject.

Notes: Summary Forty-two patients with various sacral and presacral lesions were examined by computed tomography (CT). CT was sensitive in detecting intraosseous neoplasms and presacral soft tissue masses and in seven cases identified lesions not visible on plain films. The total extent of each lesion was readily determined using CT. However, CT is diagnostically nonspecific and differentiation between primary and secondary tumors of the sacrum is generally not possible from the CT appearance alone. CT is also of considerable use in the evaluation of several non-neoplastic conditions of the sacrum, including spinal dysraphism, anterior and internal meningocele and trauma.

Notes: Sumamry Five cases of spinal lipoma are presented, four intradural and one extradural (with spina bifida). The possible relation of these tumors to defective closure of the neural arch is considered. The radiological features of intraspinal lipomas are described and their differential diagnosis is discussed. All spinal lipomas, regardless of type, are considered to be different manifestations and degrees of the dysraphic phenomenon.

Notes: Summary Primary cerebral aneurysms (i.e., of noninflammatory or nontraumatic etiology) are rare in the pediatric age group. Twelve cases of intracranial aneurysms occurring in infancy, childhood, and adolescence are presented and discussed. These aneurysms are different from the classic so-called berry aneurysms seen in adults. This group can be said to constitute a separate and novel entity.
