    Abstract: Apple (Malus domestica Borkh. cv. “Fuji”), an important cash crop, is widely consumed around the world. Accurately predicting preharvest apple fruit yields is critical for planting policy making and agricultural management. This study attempted to explore an effective approach for predicting apple fruit yields based on time-series remote sensing data. In this study, time-series vegetation indices (VIs) were derived from Planet images and analyzed to further construct an accumulated VI (∑VIs)-based random forest (RF∑VI) model and a Carnegie–Ames–Stanford approach (CASA) model for predicting apple fruit yields. The results showed that (1) ∑NDVI was the optimal predictor to construct an RF model for apple fruit yield, and the R2, RMSE, and RPD values of the RF∑NDVI model reached 0.71, 16.40 kg/tree, and 1.83, respectively. (2) The maximum light use efficiency was determined to be 0.499 g C/MJ, and the CASASR model (R2 = 0.57, RMSE = 19.61 kg/tree, and RPD = 1.53) performed better than the CASANDVI model and the CASAAverage model (R2, RMSE, and RPD = 0.56, 24.47 kg/tree, 1.22 and 0.57, 20.82 kg/tree, 1.44, respectively). (3) This study compared the yield prediction accuracies obtained by the models using the same dataset, and the RF∑NDVI model (RPD = 1.83) showed a better performance in predicting apple fruit yields than the CASASR model (RPD = 1.53). The results obtained from this study indicated the potential of the RF∑NDVI model based on time-series Planet images to accurately predict apple fruit yields. The models could provide spatial and quantitative information of apple fruit yield, which would be valuable for agronomists to predict regional apple production to inform and develop national planting policies, agricultural management, and export strategies.

    Abstract: Both nitrogen (N) and magnesium (Mg) play important roles in biochemical and physiological processes in plants. However, the application of excessive N and insufficient Mg may be the factor leading to low nitrogen utilization rate (NUE) and fruit quality degradation in apple production. Methods In this study, we analyzed the effects of different application rates of Mg (0, 50, 100, 150, 200 kg/ha) on the photosynthetic nitrogen use efficiency (PNUE), the accumulation and distribution of carbon (C), N metabolism, anthocyanin biosynthesis and fruit quality of the ‘Red Fuji’ apple in 2018 and 2019. Results The results showed that the application of Mg significantly increased the 15 NUE and increased the allocation rate of 15 N in the leaves whereas the 15 N allocation rate in the perennial organs and fruits was decreased. With the increase in Mg supply, the activities of N metabolism enzymes (NiR, GS, and GOGAT) were significantly promoted and the content of intermediate products in N metabolism ( NO 2 − , NH 4 + , and free amino acid) was significantly decreased. Furthermore, an appropriate rate of Mg significantly promoted the net photosynthetic rate (P n ) and photosynthetic nitrogen use efficiency (PNUE), enhanced the enzyme activities of C metabolism (SS, SPS, S6PDH), and increased the contents of sorbitol and sucrose in leaves. In addition, Mg upregulated the gene expression of sugar transporters ( MdSOT1 , MdSOT3 , MdSUT1 , and MdSUT4 ) in fruit stalk and fruit fresh; 13 C isotope tracer technology also showed that Mg significantly increased the 13 C allocation in the fruits. Mg also significantly increased the expression of anthocyanin biosynthesis genes ( MdCHS and MdF3H ) and transcription factors ( MdMYB1 and MdbZIP44 ) and the content of anthocyanin in apple peel. Conclusion The comprehensive analysis showed that the appropriate application of Mg (150 kg/ha) promoted PNUE, C–N metabolism, and anthocyanin biosynthesis in apple trees.

    Abstract: In order to define the effects of fruit crop load on the distribution and utilization of carbon and nitrogen in dwarf apple trees, we conducted three crop load levels (High-crop load, 6 fruits per trunk cross-sectional area (cm 2 , TCA)), Medium-crop load (4 fruits cm −2 TCA), Low-crop load (2 fruits cm −2 TCA)) in 2014 and 2015. The results indicated that the 15 N derived from fertilizer (Ndff) values of fruits decreased with the reduction of crop load, but the Ndff values of annual branches, leaves and roots increased. The plant 15 N-urea utilization rates on Medium and Low-crop load were 1.12–1.35 times higher than the High-crop load. With the reduction of crop load, the distribution rate of 13 C and 15 N in fruits was gradually reduced, but in contrast, the distribution of 13 C and 15 N gradually increased in annual branches, leaves and roots. Compared with High-crop load, the Medium and Low-crop load significantly improved fruit quality p  〈  0.05. Hence, controlling fruit load effectively regulated the distribution of carbon and nitrogen in plants, improved the nitrogen utilization rate and fruit quality. The appropriate crop load level for mature M.26 interstocks apple orchards was deemed to be 4.0 fruits cm −2 TCA.

    Abstract: Objective. To evaluate the anesthetic effect and safety of dexmedetomidine in cesarean section. Methods. The Cochrane Library, EMBASE, and PubMed databases (established until September 2020) were searched by computer. Two authors independently screened and extracted literature related to the application of dexmedetomidine in the cesarean section according to inclusion and exclusion criteria. The control group received either subarachnoid block (lumbar anesthesia) or combined lumbar anesthesia and epidural anesthesia (combined lumbar epidural anesthesia) with bupivacaine or combined bupivacaine and fentanyl. The observation group was additionally given dexmedetomidine based on the control group, to analyze the anesthetic effect and safety of dexmedetomidine in cesarean section. Results. A total of 580 cesarean delivery women were included in 8 studies, and the results showed that the peak time of sensory block in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group (standard mean difference = − 0.28 ; 95% confidence interval: -0.48, -0.08; P = 0.006 ), sensory block lasted longer than that in the control group (standard mean difference = 1.49 ; 95% confidence interval: 1.21, 1.78; P 〈 0.00001 ), the sedation rate was higher than that in the control group, the onset of the first postoperative pain was significantly delayed compared with that in the control group, and the incidence of postoperative pain, nausea and vomiting, postoperative chills, and fever was lower than that in the control group ( P 〈 0.05 ). Conclusion. Dexmedetomidine combined with lumbar anesthesia or combined lumbar epidural anesthesia for women in cesarean section has more clinical benefits and better safety.

    Abstract: Background. Dexmedetomidine is a highly selective and efficient α2-adrenoceptor agonist with good antianxiety, analgesic, hypnotic, and sedative effects without causing respiratory depression. Aim. To investigate the anesthetic effect of dexmedetomidine in clinical neurosurgery. Methods. A total of 94 patients who received functional neurosurgical treatment in our hospital from March 2019 to October 2020 were selected and divided into the study and control groups. Routine anesthesia was adopted in the control group, while dexmedetomidine was used in the study group. Perioperative hemodynamic indicators such as mean arterial pressure, heart rate, and peripheral capillary oxygen saturation, cognitive function score, pain score VAS, stress response index level, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results. Before surgery (T0), no significant differences in MAP, HR, and SpO2 were observed between the two groups. However, at the beginning of the operation (T1), 30 min after the operation (T2), and immediately after the operation (T3), these indicators in the study group were significantly higher than in the control group. The postoperative MMSE of the study group 3 d later was significantly higher than that of the control group. The VAS scores after the operation of the study group were lower than those of the control group. The serum cortisol (COR) and aldosterone (ALD) levels in the study group were not significantly different from those in the control group before surgery. The levels of each index in the two groups were higher than those before and 24 h after surgery. The incidence rate of adverse reactions in the study group was lower. Conclusion. The application of dexmedetomidine in clinical functional neurosurgery is safe and can maintain hemodynamic stability and reduce the degree of stress response, cognitive impairment, and pain caused by invasive surgery.
