Abstract: Anthocyanin is one of the flavonoids, which has strong antioxidant properties. Functional rice rich in anthocyanins can not only improve immunity, but also anti-radiation, beauty, anti-aging effect, very popular in the market. In this study, we used Zibaoxiangnuo 1 (ZBXN 1), a functional rice variety which is rich in total flavonoids and anthocyanins, as the experimental material to construct Recombination Inbred Lines (RILs) with Minghui63 (MH63), a variety without anthocyanins. The contents of anthocyanins and total flavonoids of RILs and two parents were determined for three consecutive generations. The average anthocyanin content of parent ZBXN 1 was 319.31 mg/kg, and the anthocyanin inheritance of RIL population was relatively stable, with 10 samples higher than ZBXN 1. In addition, there was no significant difference in the total flavonoids content between the two parents, the total flavonoids content of Z25 in RIL population was 0.33%. Based on these studies, we believe that ZBXN 1 has abundant and stable anthocyanins, which can be used as an intermediate breeding material for breeding high-quality varieties with high anthocyanins, and lay a foundation for breeding more anthocyanin-rich rice varieties.

Abstract: Soluble starch synthase IIa gene ( SSIIa ) is one of the key genes involved in the synthesis of amylopectin and a major gene controlling the gelatinization temperature of rice. In this study, specific molecular markers are designed for the four functional SNPs of the SSIIa gene, namely 264 (SNP1), 1810 (SNP2), 2209 (SNP3), and 2340–2341 (SNP4). In addition, 91 rice varieties are tested and the correlation of these SNPs with the structure of amylopectin, RVA profile characteristics, and gelatinization temperature are also analyzed. The results show that SNP1 (C/G) and SNP2 (A/G) of the SSIIa gene are significantly associated with the A:B value, SBV, and gelatinization temperature. The SNP4 (GC/TT) is significantly associated with the gelatinization temperature. Among the four haplotypes, namely C‐A‐A‐GC (HP1), C‐A‐G‐TT (HP2), G‐G‐G‐GC (HP3), and C‐A‐G‐GC (HP4), HP1 varieties show shorter chain length (CL) and exterior chain length (ECL), HP3 show a lower A:B value, whereas HP3 and HP4 varieties show lower PKV, BDV, and higher CPV, SBV, gelatinization temperature. The results suggest that different nonsynonymous SNPs in SSIIa may alter the activity of the SSIIa enzyme and further affect the CL and ECL of amylopectin, resulting in a different RVA profile and gelatinization temperature of starch.

Abstract: Voltage source converter-based high-voltage direct current (VSC-HVDC) has the advantage of fast and independent controllability on active and reactive power. This paper focuses on effects of commonly proposed reactive power control modes, constant reactive power control and AC voltage margin control. Based on the mathematical model of single machine infinity equivalent system with embedded VSC-HVDC, the influence of VSC-HVDC with different reactive power control strategies on transient stability and dynamic stability of the AC system is studied. Then case studies were conducted with a realistic model of grid. The dynamic responses of AC/DC systems for different VSC-HVDC reactive power control modes were compared in detail. It is shown that compared to constant reactive power control, AC voltage margin control can provide voltage support to enhance the transient angle stability of an AC system. However, the fluctuant reactive power injected into a weak AC system may adversely affect power system oscillation damping for VSC-HVDC with AC voltage margin control, if the parameters of the controller have not been optimized to suppress the low-frequency oscillation. The results of this paper can provide certain reference for the decision of an appropriate VSC-HVDC reactive power control mode in practice.

Abstract: In hybrid energy systems, the intermittent and fluctuating nature of new energy sources poses major challenges for the regulation and control of power systems. To mitigate these challenges, energy storage devices have gained attention for their ability to rapidly charge and discharge. Collaborating with wind power (WP), energy storage (ES) can participate in the frequency control of regional power grids. This approach has garnered extensive interest from scholars worldwide. This paper proposes a two-region load frequency control model that accounts for thermal power, hydropower, ES, and WP. To address complex, nonlinear optimization problems, the dingo optimization algorithm (DOA) is employed to quickly obtain optimal power dispatching commands under different power disturbances. The DOA algorithm’s effectiveness is verified through the simulation of the two-region model. Furthermore, to further validate the proposed method’s optimization effect, the DOA algorithm’s optimization results are compared with those of the genetic algorithm (GA) and proportion method (PROP). Simulation results show that the optimization effect of DOA is more significant than the other methods.

Abstract: A stable QTL associated with rice grain type with a large effect value was found in multiple environments, and its candidate genes were verified by genetic transformation. Abstract Rice ( Oryza sativa L . ) grain size is critical to both yield and appearance quality. Therefore, the discovery and identification of rice grain size genes can provide pathways for the cultivation of high-yielding varieties. In the present work, 45,607 SNP markers were used to construct a high-density genetic map of rice recombinant inbred lines, and hence a total of 14 quantitative trait loci (QTLs) were detected based on the phenotypic data of grain weight, grain length and grain width under four different environments. qTGW12a and qGL12 are newly detected QTLs related to grain weight, and are located between 22.43 Mb and 22.45 Mb on chromosome 12. Gene annotation shows that the QTL region contains the LOC_Os12g36660 annotated gene, which encodes the multidrug and toxic compound extrusion (MATE) transporter. Mutations in exons and the splice site were responsible for the changes in grain type and weight. Gene knockout experiments were used to verify these results. Hence, these results provide a basis for the cloning of qTGW12a . This discovery provides new insights for studying the genetic mechanism of rice grain morphology, and reveals a promising gene to ultimately increase rice yield.

Abstract: Osteoporosis is characterized by bone loss and destruction of trabecular architecture, which greatly increases the burden on the healthcare system. Excessive activation of osteoclasts is an important cause of osteoporosis, and suppression of osteoclastogenesis is helpful for the treatment of osteoporosis. Pristimerin, a natural compound, possesses numerous pharmacological effects via inactivating the NF-κB and MAPK pathways, which are closely related to osteoclastogenesis process. However, the relationship between Pristimerin and osteoclastogenesis requires further investigation. In this research, we examined the effect of Pristimerin on osteoclastogenesis and investigated the related mechanisms. Our results showed Pristimerin inhibited RANKL-induced osteoclast differentiation and osteoclastic bone resorption in vitro , with decreased expression of osteoclastogenesis-related markers including c-Fos, NFATc1, TRAP, Cathepsin K, and MMP-9 at both mRNA and protein levels. Furthermore, Pristimerin suppressed NF-κB and MAPK signaling pathways, reduced reactive oxygen species (ROS) production and activated the nuclear factor erythroid 2-related factor 2/heme oxygenase 1 (Nrf2/HO-1) signaling during osteoclastogenesis. Our in vivo experiments showed that Pristimerin remarkably ameliorated ovariectomy-induced bone loss, reduced serum levels of TNF-α, IL-1β, IL-6, and RANKL, and increased serum level of osteoprotegerin (OPG). Therefore, our research indicated that Pristimerin is a potential chemical for the treatment of osteoporosis.

Abstract: D-type cyclins (CYCD) regulate the cell cycle G 1 /S transition and are thus closely involved in cell cycle progression. However, little is known about their functions in rice. Results We identified 14 CYCD genes in the rice genome and confirmed the presence of characteristic cyclin domains in each. The expression of the OsCYCD genes in different tissues was investigated. Most OsCYCD genes were expressed at least in one of the analyzed tissues, with varying degrees of expression. Ten OsCYCD proteins could interact with both retinoblastoma-related protein (RBR) and A-type cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKA) forming holistic complexes, while OsCYCD3;1, OsCYCD6;1, and OsCYCD7;1 bound only one component, and OsCYCD4;2 bound to neither protein. Interestingly, all OsCYCD genes except OsCYCD7;1, were able to induce tobacco pavement cells to re-enter mitosis with different efficiencies. Transgenic rice plants overexpressing OsCYCD2;2 , OsCYCD6;1 , and OsCYCD7;1 (which induced cell division in tobacco with high-, low-, and zero-efficiency, respectively) were created. Higher levels of cell division were observed in both the stomatal lineage and epidermal cells of the OsCYCD2;2- and OsCYCD6;1 -overexpressing plants, with lower levels seen in OsCYCD7;1 -overexpressing plants. Conclusions The distinct expression patterns and varying effects on the cell cycle suggest different functions for the various OsCYCD proteins. Our findings will enhance understanding of the CYCD family in rice and provide a preliminary foundation for the future functional verification of these genes.

Abstract: Photovoltaic (PV) reconfiguration is an effective solution for reducing the hot spot effect caused by partial shadows on PV arrays. This paper proposed an efficient atom search optimization- (ASO-) based PV reconfiguration method. The analysis and comparison with the other four reconfiguration methods were performed by three evaluation criteria, which are mismatch loss, fill factor, and standard deviation, respectively. The conclusion can be drawn that the efficiency, rapidity, and reliability of ASO are superior to those of other methods. Besides, a moving cloud shadow mode of 9 × 9-scaled PV array is designed in this paper, which can be widely recommended to thoroughly study a PV reconfiguration approach.
