Abstract: Species of Diaporthe infect a wide range of plants and live in vivo as endophytes, saprobes or pathogens. However, those in peach plants are poorly characterized. In this study, 52 Diaporthe strains were isolated from peach branches with buds, showing constriction canker symptoms. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted using five gene regions: internal transcribed spacer of the ribosomal DNA (ITS), translation elongation factor 1-α ( TEF ), ß-tubulin ( TUB ), histone ( HIS ), and calmodulin ( CAL ). These results coupled with morphology revealed seven species of Diaporthe , including five known species ( D. caryae , D. cercidis , D. eres , D. hongkongensis , and D. unshiuensis ). In addition, two novel species D. jinxiu and D. zaofenghuang are introduced. Except for the previously reported D. eres , this study represents the first characterization of Diaporthe species associated with peach constriction canker in China, and contributes useful data for practicable disease management.

Abstract: The study aimed to find novel innovation and research of subsidized fertilizers based on soil nutrient variability and farmer’s perception in rice farming. This study uses a completely randomized design with four natural treatments, a one-way Anova and Tukey HSD Test as well as multiple linear and cubic regressions. The fertilizer uniformity on varied ricefields was a big failure because it causes fertilization becoming ineffective, inefficient and unsustainable. Ricefield variability (due to geomorphogenesis, pedogenesis, interflow flow, vegetation distribution, land use patterns, and fertilizer application) causes not optimized fertilization (dose, balance, time, methods of fertilization). The perception of farmers can create conflicts of interest, which are determined as normal, unavoidable and natural.  Short-term research target is how fertilization in the field is done effectively, efficiently, and sustainably, whereas long-term target is to generate new sources of wealth, fertilization technology based on soil science knowledge, forming professional researcher, the great inventions of patents, cooperation media between scientists, technocrats and bureaucrats and research funding.

Abstract: Introduction: Okra, which belong to Malvaceae family, is well known used as a food ingredient due to its high fiber content. Objective: In this study, the antiradical strength of okra seed extracts and fractions was investigated. Methodology: Okra seeds were dried and macerated with ethanol. Further, it is fractionated by different solvents based on the level of polarity from the non-polar to the polar, including n-hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and water. The extracts and fractions were then tested for antiradical strength using DPPH and analysis of phenolic and flavonoid contents were performed. Results: Ethanol extract and fractions of okra seeds showed very strong free antiradical activity, and ethyl acetate fraction being strongest fraction with IC50 value of 10.097±0.074µg/mL. Meanwhile, the phenolic and flavonoid contents of ethyl acetate fraction were the highest among other fractions with the values of 61.412±0.196 EAG and 97.933±0.222 EQ, respectively, with correlation values (R2) 0.9281 (phenolic) and 0.6229 (Flavonoids). Conclusion: Extract and ethyl acetate fraction of Okra seed had good radical inhibition properties, which indicated its potential for further development assays.

Abstract: Background & Objective: Posterior Urethral Valves (PUV) are common cause of congenital obstructive uropathy in boys and may be associated with urinary tract infection(UTI) and chronic kidney disease(CKD) if not managed timely. The objective of our study was to determine the clinical profile of children with PUV. Methods: This is a descriptive case series comprising of 30 children aged 1-5 years, diagnosed and managed as PUV over six months, conducted at the Department of Pediatric Nephrology, National Institute of Child Health, Karachi. Patients were followed for 12 weeks and the outcome was assessed in terms of recovery, UTI, urinary incontinence and CKD. Descriptive statics were used for data analysis. Results: Thirty cases of PUV were managed during study period. Clinical presentations were poor urinary stream (83%), fever (73%), signs and symptom suggesting UTI (96.6%), pallor (73.3%), acute kidney injury (37%)and urinary retention (13%). UTI was confirmed in 73.3 % and E.Coli was the most common pathogen. Ultrasonography showed bilateral hydronephrosis/hydroureter in 80% and micturating cystourethrogram demonstrated vesicoureteral reflux in 86.66% cases. All patients received intravenous hydration (97%), urinary decompression, and antibiotics. Meropenem was the most commonly used. Packed cell transfusion and peritoneal dialysis was done in 73.33% and 13.3% respectively. Cystoscopic valve fulguration was done in 86.66% and vesicostomy in 13.3%. On short-term follow-up, 60% recovered,16.66% experienced UTI and remained incontinent whereas 23.33% had CKD. Conclusion: Our study showed a high frequency of UTI and AKI. E. coli was most common pathogen. Despite valve fulgration, significant patients had CKD. doi: https://doi.org/10.12669/pjms.38.7.5823 How to cite this:Yamin R, Moorani K, Shaikh M, Yamin S. Abstract: Increasing of significant population also resulted in increased national food needs. Conversion of arable land into non-agricultural land make suboptimal lands became the target of planting areas to fulfill food security. Swamp land is one of suboptimal land which potential to be developed. Swamp land in Indonesia (33.40 to 39.40 million ha) has a huge potential to support the stability of the national rice production. In addition to abiotic stresses, biotic stresses also often occurs in swamp lands. This study aims to select the lines which have high yield and resistant to bacterial leaf blight (BLB). This experiment was conducted at Muara, Bogor in April-September 2014. The materials are 318 lines with five check varieties namely Inpara 2, Inpara 3, Inpara 6, Inpara 7, and IR42. The experiment was arranged in a augmented design. Observation were made on plant height, tiller number, age of flowering, age of maturity, yield, scores of bacterial leaf blight (BLB), and a score of phenotypic acceptability (PACP). Data were analyzed using SAS version 9 for analysis of variance and continue with path analysis and weighted standardized selection index. The results showed that there were sixty lines selected based on weighted standardized selection index. The lines have a yield between 4.48 to 7.48 t / ha and promissing to the next test. Three lines have yield which significantly higher than Inpara 2 namely B13100-2-MR-2-KA-3-2 (7.48 t / ha), TDK-Sub 1 1- MR-1 (7.04 t / ha), and B13991E-KA-25 (6.98 t / ha). TDK-Sub 1 1- MR-1 and B13991E-KA-25 also have resistance to bacterial leaf blight.
