Abstract: This paper presents experimental and numerical investigations of the seismic behaviour of V-shaped reinforced-concrete (RC) columns at the weak ground storey of a building. Two half-scaled RC columns were tested to failure by a simulated ground acceleration time history using a shaking table. The test setup was designed to simulate the sliding mechanism of the column specimens, termed the double-curvature mechanism, which is expected to occur in a soft-storey building. The seismic responses of the specimens were evaluated and compared with each other in terms of general performance, hysteresis response and failure modes. Thereafter, a fibre-element model, verified by the test data, was used to conduct a parametric study on the effects of axial load ratio and longitudinal reinforcement arrangement on the seismic performance of irregularly shaped columns.

Abstract: The paper presents a new approach to design a nonlinear controller for switched reluctance motors (SRMs) based on backstepping technique and artificial neuron network (ANN) in flux estimator. Backstepping controller with an ANN flux estimator will be applied for controlling SRMs which have a nonlinear drive model. The ANN flux estimator was trained off-line using backpropagation algorithm. The stability of the closed control loop was analyzed and proved accroding to the Lyapunov stability standard. The numerical simulation results confirmed the accuracy of the estimator and the quality of the backstepping control system.

Abstract: This paper proposes a new test setup to study the double-curvature behavior of reinforced concrete (RC) columns using shaking table. In this setup, the seismic action is simulated by the horizontal movement of a long-heavy rigid mass sitting on the top of only one test specimen. The double-curvature mechanism of specimen is affected by the movement of the concrete mass on a test rig consisting four steel hollow-section columns fully anchored to the shaking table. Application of axial load on the specimen is made possible through a pre-stressing equipment connecting to its top and bottom bases. The current setup offers two improvements over the previous ones. First, it makes available greater ranges of test data for conducting bigger sizes of the specimens. Second, it allows to directly measure the variation of axial force in the test specimens while the test implementation can be fast and easy with a high safety margin even until the complete collapse of the test units. The current test setup has been successfully applied on two ½ scaled V-shaped columns. It has been shown that the column specimen with a low axial load level of 0.05f’cAg, where f’c is the concrete strength and Ag is the cross-sectional area of the specimen, can well survive at a ground peak acceleration up to 5.5 (m/s2) with a drift ratio of approximately 2.91%. Meanwhile, the column subjected to moderate axial load level of 0.15f’cAg can survive at a higher ground peak acceleration of 8.0 (m/s2) with a drift ratio of 3.75%. Furthermore, it is experimentally evidenced that the V-shaped cross-section does not deform in-plane under seismic action. The angle between two planes corresponding to the column web and flange are up to 0.03 (rad). This finding is significant since it contradicts the plane strain assumption available in the current design practice.

Abstract: Profit maximization is an important goal of any business entities, lead to big concern about how to improve financial performance so as to run businesses in a stability and sustainability. Furthermore, in measuring financial performance, several profitability indicators are widely in use as return on assets (ROA), return on equity (ROE)... We did conduct literature reviews and conclude: evaluating the impact of factors on entity financial performance is such an essential topic which has drawn the attention of researchers all over the world and yet Vietnam. However, many studies gave dissimilar results, which indicates there might be differences in nature of the relationship, or factors affiliation in enterprises of different sectors or different countries. This study aims to determine the effect of factors on the financial performance of companies listed on the Hanoi Stock Exchange (HNX) from 2013-2017. The factors include corporate income tax, firms’size, growth of the firm, age of the firm and liquidity. The study used panel data methodology, the FEM model was found to be consistent with data. In this study, variables of return on assets (ROA) used to measure the financial performance of companies. The research revealed that corporate income tax, firms’size and growth of the firm show a significant negative relationship with financial performance. On the other hand, there is a significant positive relationship between liquidity and financial performance. But, the relationship between ROA with the firm age is not significant. Firms’ size and corporate income tax have the greatest influence on financial of companies. The findings of the study will improve the financial performance of companies listed on the HNX.

Abstract: Currently, RC flat slabs are being used commonly because of their advantages. Punching shear failure is one of the governing failure modes of RC flat slabs without column capital and drop panels. In this paper, the provisions for predicting the punching shear capacity of two-way reinforced concrete (RC) flat slabs without shear reinforcement including ACI 318-19, Eurocode 2 and TCVN 5574:2018 provisions are reviewed by mean of considering the influences of the main parameters (effective depth, compressive strength of concrete, loaded area, reinforcement ratio). A total of 169 test results collected from the literature were used to compare with the provisions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of applicability of predicting the punching shear capacity of two-way RC flat slabs according to these provisions. The comparison results indicated that the Eurocode 2 provision provides the most accurate prediction of punching shear capacity of two-way RC flat slabs.

Abstract: Trong nhà cao tầng bê tông cốt thép (BTCT), cột tiết diện chữ L mang đến hiệu quả cao trong việc tăng độ cứng tổng thể và không gian sử dụng cho công trình.

Abstract: It has been commonly recognized by the international research and practice community that the presence of both outer and inner stirrups may significantly enhance the axial load capacity of reinforced concrete (RC) columns. However, there is limited testing evidence to support this conclusion that has been published nationally. This paper reports an experimental programme to study the effectiveness of stirrup detailing on the structural performance of columns having small sectional dimensions that are common in low-rise building structures. Nine column specimens with the same geometrical dimensions of 220 mm x 220 mm x 880 mm in three batches were detailed with different stirrup categories, have been gradually axially loaded to failure. The test data have revealed that although the presence of stirrups can generally enhance the axial load capacity of the column specimens, the enhancing levels are much dependent to the shapes of the stirrups. Selected interesting aspects of the test results have also been discussed, which set a concrete base for recommendations for design and detailing of such vertical structural elements. Keywords: experimental investigation; low-rise building columns; axial load capacity; stirrups.
