Abstract:
In this contribution we present a low‐cost photometer for self‐construction which has been developed in cooperation of chemistry and technical education experts. Our aim was to make a robust and repairable device available to chemistry teachers which is low in cost if compared to commercial devices and which produces reliable data. With the help of a self‐construction guide, the device can be assembled by the teachers themselves. Prerequisites are basic knowledge in soldering, programming a mini‐computer and printing a 3D case. Both the programming and the 3D printing is supported by digital help files in the construction guide which provides a step‐wise instruction. In a professional development workshop, 15 devices were successfully assembled and are in operation in the schools of the region.
