Abstract: Damage in reinforced concrete structures is frequently caused by reinforcement corrosion due to carbonation. Although a wide range of literature contributed to the concrete carbonation consisting of experimental investigations and numerical simulations, research work on a complete numerical model for concrete carbonation prediction with integrated climatic variables (e.g., temperature, relative humidity) is still a challenge. The present paper aims to propose an advanced numerical model to simulate the penetration of carbon dioxide and moisture, diffusion of calcium ions, heat transfer, and porosity modification in concrete material using COMSOL Multiphysics software. Three coupled mass conservation equations of calcium, water, and carbon dioxide are solved together with additional equations regarding the heat transfer, variation of porosity, and content of portlandite and other hydrates and calcites. In this study, the actual temporal variabilities of temperature and relative humidity in Toulouse, France, are used as a case study. The predicted results of portlandite profiles and carbonation depth are compared with the experimental data and discussed to identify the effect of climatic variables on the concrete carbonation.

Abstract: Competitiveness has emerged as a crucial economic characteristic in policy and academia. It refers to the combination of institutions, policies, and factors that determine a country's level of productivity by assessing different aspects of competitiveness. This paper aims to assess the competitiveness of Asian countries by combining Global Innovation Index (GII) and Logistics Performance Index (LPI). The authors implement an integrated model called the Data Envelopment Analysis Super Slack-Based Measure Model (DEA–Super SBM) and the Malmquist Model (DEA–Malmquist) to assess competitiveness from 2012 to 2018. The study begins by validating seven critical factors from the GII and the LPI that impact competitiveness. Subsequently, the Super-SBM model evaluates the competitiveness efficiency for 30 Asian countries during the specified time frame. The DEA–Malmquist model is then employed to analyze the overall change in countries' competitiveness productivity across Asia. This research suggests that most Asian countries have achieved competitiveness efficiency, with countries such as China, Pakistan, and Kuwait demonstrating high indicators. However, a few countries still exhibit relatively low competitiveness indicators, and there has been some variation in competitiveness efficiency over the years. The study's implications can provide valuable insights to governments and policymakers, aiding in developing effective strategies to strengthen competitiveness and foster economic development.

Abstract: In this paper, we study novel variants of the well‐known two‐echelon vehicle routing problem in which a truck works on the first echelon to transport parcels and a fleet of drones to intermediate depots while in the second echelon, the drones are used to deliver parcels from intermediate depots to customers. The objective is to minimize the completion time instead of the transportation cost as in classical two‐echelon vehicle routing problems. Depending on the context, a drone can be launched from the truck at an intermediate depot once (single‐trip drone) or several times (multiple‐trip drone). Mixed‐integer linear programming models are first proposed to formulate mathematically the problems and solve to optimality small‐sized instances. To handle larger instances, a metaheuristic based on the idea of greedy randomized adaptive search procedure is introduced. The main novel feature of our metaheuristic lies in the design of initial solution construction and local search operators, which can cover all the decision layers of the problems and run in using additional data structures. Experimental results obtained on instances of different contexts are reported and analyzed.

Abstract: A new solution using ultra-high performance concrete (UHPC) sheet piles was a hard wall structure combined with gabion groyne dams for the purpose of shore protection, sand accretion, and tourist beach creation was proposed in this study. The proposed approach was then applied to meet the both shore protection and sandy beach generation requirements of private Rung Duong resort project in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Vietnam. The UHPC sheet piles reinforced by fiber reinforcement polymer (FRP) installed in form of a vertical wall were designed and constructed for the shore protection purpose. Together with the later built gabion groyne dam system, the combined structure brought a very good coastal protection effect. As a result observed from Rung Duong resort, the shoreline was pushed back out very far from the resort, while sandy beaches in front of the resort were formed and expanded widely.

Abstract: The inertia in power systems plays a very important role in stabilizing the power system. With the growth of distributed generation (DG)/renewable energy source (RES) penetration in the power grid, there has been a concern about the lack of inertia in the power system. One of the solutions to solve the problem is to use the Virtual Synchronous Generator (VSG) control method. For energy storage, the Vehicle-to-grid (V2G) storage system can replace the traditional hybrid energy storage which consists of batteries and supercapacitors. This application will be implemented in Microgrid. The article will focus on simulating the Microgrid with the V2G system and solar energy as a renewable energy source, the inverters are controlled by the method of VSG control. The models will be simulated and the results will be shown on MATLAB/SIMULINK software.
