Abstract: Introduction: Orthodontic elastics are a very significant tool in orthodontics, as it is the most commonly used force delivering unit. Temperature plays a key role in the amount of force that elastics are able to produce. Hence, there is a need to evaluate the influence of storage temperature on the properties of orthodontic elastics before its clinical use. Aim: To evaluate the influence of different storage temperature of latex orthodontic elastics. Materials and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted at Sathyabama Dental College and Hospital, Chennai, in November 2019. Sample of 40 latex orthodontic elastics (TP Orthodontics, medium force, standard size of 3/16′′) were divided into four groups with 10 elastics each, based on their storage temperature and stored in closed plastic packages. Group 1 was kept as a Control group and Group 2, Group 3 and Group 4 were stored in three Incubators under the specified storage temperatures such as 26-28°C, 4-8°C, 37°C respectively. The elastics were stretched and their forces measured in six progressive increases of 100% of their inner diameter, starting at a level of 100% stretching, with the Universal Testing Machine, Instron. The samples were also tested for Maximum Stress (MPa), Maximum Force (N), Maximum Elongation (%) and Break Distance (mm). Data were analysed using Statistical Package for the Social Science (SPSS) software version 16.0, one-way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and post-hoc test. Results: On evaluating the stress at 100%, 200%, 300%, 400%, 500%, 600% of strain, there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. Maximum Stress MPa was found to be 24.12±3.32, 25.12±3.42, 23.3±3.41, 23.97±3.50 for group1, group 2, group 3 and group 4 respectively. Maximum Elongation (%) was found to be 1369.0±25.108, 1364.0±23.190, 1359.0±35.103, 1363.0±34.657 for group 1, group 2, group 3 and group 4, respectively. Break Distance (mm) was found to be 68.48±1.267, 68.28±1.267, 67.87±1.77 and 68.19±1.727 for group1, group 2, group 3 and group 4, respectively. And none of the parameters tested showed statistical significance between the four groups. Conclusion: Latex elastics may be stored under any of the conditions tested in the present study over a period of one month, since different storage temperatures over a period of one month did not interfere in their mechanical properties.

Abstract: BACKGROUND Globally there has been an increase in the usage of miniscrew implants (MSI) because it expanded the envelope of discrepancy which led to the management of most severe cases without surgery. There is limited data available about awareness and usage of MSI among Indian orthodontists. So, the purpose of this study was to evaluate the Indian orthodontists’ experiences regarding MSI. METHODS The study sample consisted of 1000 qualified orthodontists practicing in India. The present study was a questionnaire-based survey, circulated among the orthodontists through Google forms. The questionnaire included both close-ended and selfadministered questions. The data was analysed using the statistical analysis SPSS software version 20.0. RESULTS Out of 2000 circulated Google forms there was 50 % response rate. Among the participants, 95.7 % had attended training for MSI placement. Among the participants who attended training, 81.1 % were using mini screw in practice, of whom 60 % participants had placed more than 50 implants. Most participants (70.9 %) recommended insertion torque of 5 – 10 Nm and for the time of force application, 48.6 % go with force application immediately after placement. Most participants (75.7 %) were satisfied with MSI usage. CONCLUSIONS There has been an increase in the usage of MSI among the Indian orthodontists. The knowledge, awareness and experience about MSI among Indian orthodontists was in accordance with recent global trends. The failure rate experienced by Indian orthodontists was similar to orthodontists practicing globally. KEY WORDS Mini Screw Implants (MSI), Orthodontists, Survey, India

Abstract: Aim:  To assess the, awareness of stem cells among Orthodontists in India. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional, self-modified, validated questionnaire-based, nationwide survey was conducted among practicing Orthodontists and postgraduate students belonging to various colleges in India. A total of 502 participants completed the questionnaire. Google Form link was generated and circulated. Data were imported in Microsoft Excel (Version 2016) format. The data was analyzed using SPSS Statistics for Windows, version 25.0 (SPSS Inc., Chicago, Ill., USA). Inferential statistics were performed using the Chi-square test. Categorical variables were described using frequency and percentages. Results: The awareness of the participants about stem cells was assessed. Statistically significant differences were obtained in comparing both the groups (p 〈 0.0001) Conclusion: This is a nationwide survey to assess the levels of awareness of the Postgraduate students and the Orthodontists towards dental stem cell therapy. It has been seen that there are a variety of responses across the zones among the groups. Overall comparisons have suggested that there is equitable knowledge among all the participants towards stem cell applications. Comparatively lesser scores have been reported by the postgraduates in the knowledge and awareness domains.
