Abstract: Rotary Inverted Pendulum (RIP) plays a vital role in control engineering. Rotary Inverted Pendulum is a complex, nonlinear, non-minimum-phase and under-actuated system which has various applications in the field of Robotics. The main contribution of this paper is to design and control RIP by using Linear Quadratic Regulator (LQR) controller for stabilization at vertically upright position - the unstable equilibrium point, and Linear Quadratic Tracker (LQT) controller for tracking the desired trajectory. Besides, stability of the closed-loop system is analyzed for ensuring the reliability of the developed controller. The simulation is carried out in MATLAB/Simulink environment, and the proposed controllers have been tested on Rotary Inverted Pendulum hardware that is designed by authors. The analysis and results conducted on the system demonstrate the performance of the control schemes, including stabilization of unstable equilibrium point, tracking the desired trajectory, and system response showing the robustness and effectiveness of methods.

Abstract: Hypertension is a leading risk factor for major chronic illnesses. This study investigated the quality of life (QOL) of hypertensive patients in an urban setting and evaluate related factors. A cross-sectional study on 220 hypertensive patients was performed in Hanoi, Vietnam. Short-form 12 version 2 (SF12-v2) was used to assess QOL. Sociodemographic and clinical characteristics were also obtained. Multivariate regression was utilized to explore the related factors with patients’ QOL. The mean physical health (PCS-12) and mental health (MCS-12) scores were 43.3 (SD=7.9) and 56.3 (SD=6.5), respectively, Higher age was related to a lower PCS-12. People living in low-population-density settings have a higher MCS-12 score than those living in high-density settings. Increasing comorbidity and medication reduced both component scores. Patients participating in social activity had the MCS-12 score higher than those not participating. This study found a moderate level of health-related quality of life (HRQOL) in hypertensive patients regardless of treatment progress. Regular screening and controlling comorbidities, as well as motivating active employment and social activities involvement, are the potential to enhance the HRQOL of this population.

Abstract: The goal of this research is to evaluate the influence of the polyphenols extract of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. root on the lipid oxidation, chemical properties and sensory characteristics of ground beef during frozen storage. Beef was ground in aqueous solutions of polyphenols extract at different concentrations: 830, 415, 277, 208 and 166 mg GAE/L, polyphenols solution/sample ratio is 1/20 (v/w). Then, the ground beef was stored for up to 100 days at -20±2oC. The best oxidation inhibitor for ground beef was at the highest polyphenols concentration of 830 mg GAE/L. All quality parameters (pH, PoV, MDA, color parameter and sensory evaluation) of the treated sample and of the control sample display significant differences during storage period. For this reason, it was concluded that the polyphenols extract of Polygonum multiflorum Thunb. root could be used as an alternative source of natural antioxidant in beef processing.

Abstract: The quality of Pacific white shrimp stored at 0 °C during the 10 days was evaluated by the combination of sensory, microbiological and biochemical measurements. Quality index methods (QIM) have been developed to evaluate sensory attributes of shrimp. Total visible count (TVC), K value, histamine, and pH are used to assess microbiological and biochemical indices. The results of TVC and QIM showed that shrimps showed signs of spoilage (lg cfu = 6.4; quality index (QI) = 21.37), which is unacceptable to consumers on day 9. QI quality score increased linearly with storage days. The remaining shelf life of shrimp was estimated from the linear regression equation. The results have found the linear regression equations between the QI, histamine, K value, and hypoxanthine. In addition, the results also showed that hypoxanthine could be considered as an independent quality index such as the K index. The quality of Pacific white shrimp could be classified into four grades: excellent, good, moderately acceptable, and just acceptable basing on the results of sensory and biochemical evaluation.

Abstract: Tower crane is a popular model in industry. It helps to move constructing material from lower place to higher place and vice versa. Due to its importance in real application, educational experimental models are necessary to be built in laboratory for researching and training students. In this paper, an experimental platform of tower crane system is presented for testing algorithms. For a real model with un-known system parameters and MIMO under-actuated structure, intelligent control is a suitable selection. Fuzzy control is a primary algorithm in training intelligent control for students. Thence, an 81-rule fuzzy controller is designed and used to control position and anti-sway for this model. This idea is inspired from fuzzy control for SIMO system, such as inverted pendulum. Our controller gives good results under kinds of external effects. The quality of controlling is proved to be better under fuzzy controller than under no-control. Therefore, survey in this paper can be used to train students in fuzzy control structure for MIMO under-actuated system.

Abstract: Graphene Quantum Dots (GQDs) were successfully synthesized by a green and eco-friendly synthetic method using abundant and naturally available raw materials from rice flour. This study suggested and compared two aggressive approaches to fabricate GQDs, which are hydrothermal method at 170 °C for 8 h and microwave irradiation method at 900 W with a short reaction time of 30 min. The results showed that the hydrothermal method produced GQDs with better nanoparticle size and properties than the microwave irradiation method. Furthermore, the products were only GQDs, water and carbide precipitate, thus avoiding complicated post-processing steps. The synthesized GQDs were determined for their morphology by Transmission electron microscope (TEM) showing spherical nanoparticles with an average size of ~5-7 nm and ~10-14 nm for hydrothermal and microwave irradiation methods, respectively. Besides, these GQDs were also analyzed for their characterizations, morphologies and compositions by UV-vis, XRD and FTIR. Thanks to their low cytotoxicity, good optical stability, and excellent photo-luminescence property, GQDs have become novel nanostructured materials in many application fields from energy to biomedicine and environment such as sensors, bio-imaging, drug carriers, and solar cells.

Abstract: The paper addresses a problem of efficiently controlling an autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), where its typical underactuated model is considered. Due to critical uncertainties and nonlinearities in the system caused by unavoidable external disturbances such as ocean currents when it operates, it is paramount to robustly maintain motions of the vehicle over time as expected. Therefore, it is proposed to employ the hierarchical sliding mode control technique to design the closed-loop control scheme for the device. However, exactly determining parameters of the AUV control system is impractical since its nonlinearities and external disturbances can vary those parameters over time. Thus, it is proposed to exploit neural networks to develop an adaptive learning mechanism that allows the system to learn its parameters adaptively. More importantly, stability of the AUV system controlled by the proposed approach is theoretically proved to be guaranteed by the use of the Lyapunov theory. Effectiveness of the proposed control scheme was verified by the experiments implemented in a synthetic environment, where the obtained results are highly promising.
