    Abstract: The hazardous effect of a mine earthquake on a roadway is not only related to its energy scale but also to its distance from the roadway. In this study, a signal attenuation model and a disaster-causing model were established to evaluate the mine earthquake effects based on peak particle velocity (PPV) data recorded for 37221-1 upper roadway of the Dongxia Coal Mine, China. The characteristic of dynamic loads due to mine earthquake propagation to roadway surfaces was researched, and critical PPV values were identified using FLAC3D numerical simulation, which can be used to evaluate the roadway anti-burst performance under the existing support system. The results show that the support system is able to resist a mine earthquake with energy below 2.33 × 103 J; however, considering the energy accumulation volume of surrounding rocks and the range of source fracture, the maximum resistible mine earthquake energy can be up to 7.09 × 106 J when the roadway is 50 m away from the source. The validity and applicability of the disaster-causing models was verified by two rockburst cases that occurred during the excavation of the working face.

    Abstract: Overtreatment of axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) may occur in patients with axillary positive sentinel lymph node (SLN) but negative non-SLN (NSLN). Developing a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based radiomics nomogram to predict axillary NSLN metastasis in patients with SLN-positive breast cancer could effectively decrease the probability of overtreatment and optimize a personalized axillary surgical strategy. Methods This retrospective study included 285 patients with positive SLN breast cancer. Fifty five of them had metastatic NSLNs and 230 had non-metastatic NSLNs. MRI-based radiomic features of primary tumors were extracted and MRI morphologic findings of the primary tumor and axillary lymph nodes were assessed. Four models, namely, a radiomics signature, an MRI-clinical nomogram, and two MRI-clinical-radiomics nomograms were established based on MRI morphologic findings, clinicopathologic characteristics, and MRI-based radiomic features to predict the NSLN status. The optimal predictors in each model were selected using the 5-fold cross-validation (CV) method. Their predictive performances were determined by the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves analysis. The area under the curves (AUCs) of different models was compared by the Delong test. Their discrimination capability, calibration curve, and clinical usefulness were also assessed. Results The 5-fold CV analysis showed that the AUCs ranged from 0.770 to 0.847 for the radiomics signature, from 0.720 to 0.824 for the MRI-clinical nomogram, from 0.843 to 0.932 for the MRI-clinical-radiomics nomogram. The optimal predictive factors in the radiomics signature, MRI-clinical nomogram, and MRI-clinical-radiomics nomogram were one texture feature of diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI), two clinicopathologic features together with one MRI morphologic finding, and the DWI-based texture feature together with the two clinicopathologic features plus the one MRI morphologic finding, respectively. The MRI-clinical-radiomics nomogram with CA 15-3 included achieved the highest AUC compared with the radiomics signature (0.868 vs . 0.806, P & lt; 0.001) and MRI-clinical nomogram (0.868 vs . 0.761; P & lt; 0.001). In addition, the MRI-clinical-radiomics nomogram without CA 15-3 showed a higher performance than that of the radiomics signature (AUC, 0.852 vs . 0.806, P = 0.016) and the MRI-clinical nomogram (AUC, 0.852 vs . 0.761, P = 0.007). The MRI-clinical-radiomics nomograms showed good discrimination and good calibration. Decision curve analysis demonstrated that the MRI-clinical-radiomics nomograms were clinically useful. Conclusion The MRI-clinical-radiomics nomograms developed in our study showed high predictive performance, which can be used to predict the axillary NSLN status in SLN-positive breast cancer patients before surgery.

    Abstract: The loss of biodiversity from urbanized areas is a major environmental problem challenging policy‐makers throughout the world. Solutions to this problem are urgently required in China. We carried out a case study of wintering long‐eared owls ( Asio otus ) and their main prey to illustrate the negative effects of urbanization combined with ineffective conservation of biodiversity in Beijing. Field monitoring of owl numbers at two roosting sites from 2004 to 2012 showed that the owl population had fallen rapidly in metropolitan Beijing. Analysis of pellet contents identified only seven individuals of two species of shrew. The majority of mammalian prey comprised four bat and seven rodent species, making up 29.3% and 29.5% of the prey items, respectively. Prey composition varied significantly among years at the two sample sites. At the urban site the consumption of bats and rodents declined gradually over time, while predation on birds increased. In contrast, at the suburban site the prey composition showed an overall decrease in the number of bats, a sharp increase and a subsequent decrease in bird prey, and the number of rodent prey fell to a low point. Rapid development of real estate and inadequate greenfield management in city parks resulted in negative effects on the bird and small mammal habitat of urban areas in Beijing. We suggest that measures to conserve biodiversity should be integrated into future urban planning to maintain China's rich biodiversity while also achieving sustainable economic development.

    Abstract: Primary dysmenorrhoea (PDM) is known to alter brain static functional activity. This study aimed to explore the dynamic topological properties (DTP) of dynamic brain functional network in women with PDM in the pain‐free phase and their performance in distinguishing PDM in the pain‐free phase from healthy controls. Methods Thirty‐five women with PDM and 38 healthy women without PDM were included. A dynamic brain functional network was constructed using the slide‐window approach. The stability (TP‐Stab) and variability (TP‐Var) of the DTP of the dynamic functional network were computed using the graph‐theory method. A support vector machine (SVM) was used to evaluate the performance of DTP in identifying PDM in the pain‐free phase. Results Compared with healthy controls, women with PDM had not only lower TP‐Stab in global DTP, which included cluster clustering coefficient ( C p ), characteristic path length ( L p ), global efficiency ( E g ) and local efficiency ( E loc ), but also lower TP‐Stab and higher TP‐Var in nodal DTP (nodal efficiency, E nod ), mainly in the prefrontal cortex, anterior cingulate cortex, parahippocampal regions and insula. The TP‐Stab and TP‐Var were significantly correlated with psychological variables, that is positive emotions, sense of control and meaningful existence. SVM analysis showed that the DTP could identify PDM in the pain‐free phase from healthy controls with an accuracy of 79.31%, sensitivity of 82.61% and specificity of 76%. Conclusions Women with PDM in the pain‐free phase have altered global DTP and nodal DTP, mainly involving pain‐related neurocircuits. The highly variable brain network is helpful for identifying PDM in the pain‐free phase. Significance This study shows that women with primary dysmenorrhoea (PDM) have decreased stability of dynamic network topological properties (DTP) and increased DTP variability in the pain‐free phase. The altered DTP can be used to identify PDM in the pain‐free phase. These findings demonstrate the presence of unstable characteristics in the whole network and disrupted pain‐related neurocircuits, which might be used as potential classifiers for PDM in the pain‐free phase. This study improves our knowledge of the brain mechanisms underlying PDM.

    Abstract: The high value use of agricultural and livestock waste resources in the context of a low carbon economy is a challenge that currently plagues many countries. Yak dung, as a waste resource from livestock farming in the plateau, is considered to be a misplaced treasure. In this work, yak dung was processed into yak dung fiber (YDF) and yak dung ash (YDA), respectively, and the microscopic morphology of the YDF and YDA was assessed using scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The elements in the YDA were analyzed by energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX). Moreover, cementitious composites were prepared with YDF at 0%, 0.3%, 0.5% and 0.7% and by replacing cement with YDA at 5%, 10% and 15% to assess the workability, mechanical properties and shrinkage properties of cementitious composites containing different YDF types (alkali treated and untreated), contents and different YDA contents. The results showed that alkali-treated YDF and YDA contain a large number of honeycomb structure pores, and the strength of cementitious materials with alkali-treated YDF was higher. The addition of YDF had a negative effect on the fluidity and compressive strength of the cementitious material, but the 0.3% YDF was beneficial in increasing its flexural strength. The compressive strength and flexural strength first increased and then decreased with the increase of YDA content. Both YDF and YDA inhibited the shrinkage of the cement paste, and the shrinkage strain of the cement matrix composites containing 0.3% YDF and 10% YDA was reduced by 51.1% compared to the control group. This work is expected to promote the application of yak dung waste in cementitious materials.

    Abstract: Notch signaling represents a key mechanism mediating cancer metastasis and stemness. To understand how Notch signaling is overactivated to couple tumor metastasis and self-renewal in NSCLC cells, we performed the current study and showed that RFC4, a DNA replication factor amplified in more than 40% of NSCLC tissues, directly binds to the Notch1 intracellular domain (NICD1) to competitively abrogate CDK8/FBXW7-mediated degradation of NICD1. Moreover, RFC4 is a functional transcriptional target gene of Notch1 signaling, forming a positive feedback loop between high RFC4 and NICD1 levels and sustained overactivation of Notch signaling, which not only leads to NSCLC tumorigenicity and metastasis but also confers NSCLC cell resistance to treatment with the clinically tested drug DAPT against NICD1 synthesis. Furthermore, together with our study, analysis of two public datasets involving more than 1500 NSCLC patients showed that RFC4 gene amplification, and high RFC4 and NICD1 levels were tightly correlated with NSCLC metastasis, progression and poor patient prognosis. Therefore, our study characterizes the pivotal roles of the positive feedback loop between RFC4 and NICD1 in coupling NSCLC metastasis and stemness properties and suggests its therapeutic and diagnostic/prognostic potential for NSCLC therapy.

    Abstract: Objectives: This study aimed to investigate the potential connectivity mechanism between the cerebellum and anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) and the cerebellar structure in primary dysmenorrhea (PDM). Methods: We applied the spatially unbiased infratentorial template (SUIT) of the cerebellum to obtain anatomical details of cerebellar lobules, upon which the functional connectivity (FC) between the cerebellar lobules and ACC subregions was analyzed and the gray matter (GM) volume of cerebellar lobules was measured by using voxel-based morphometry (VBM) in 35 PDM females and 38 age-matched healthy females. The potential relationship between the altered FC or GM volume and clinical information was also evaluated in PDM females. Results: PDM females showed higher connectivity between the left perigenual ACC (pACC) and lobule vermis_VI, between the left pACC and left lobule IX, and between right pACC and right cerebellar lobule VIIb than did the healthy controls. Compared with healthy controls, no altered GM volume was found in PDM females. No significant correlation was found between altered cerebellum–ACC FC and the clinical variables in the PDM females. Conclusion: PDM females have abnormal posterior cerebellar connectivity with pACC but no abnormal structural changes. ACC–cerebellar circuit disturbances might be involved in the PDM females.
