Abstract: ABSTRACTBackground: Small dense low-density lipoprotein (sdLDL-C) is an atherogenic lipoprotein. Increased sdLDL-C concentration was hypothesized to be associated with obesity and diabetes mellitus (DM).Objectives: The study aimed to determine the association between sdLDL-C, central obesity, and DM among Indonesian adults, controlled by personal and clinical parameters.Materials and Methods: This study used secondary data from Basic Health Research 2013 of the Ministry of Health, which applied a cross-sectional study design. For this purpose, 30,548 subjects aged 19-79 were analyzed. The sdLDL-C was performed by using Sampson Formula derived from conventional lipid panels. As investigated by Sampson, the formula referred to cLDL-C (calculated LDL-C) and ElbLDL-C (estimated large buoyant LDL-C).Results: There was a positive association between sdLDL-C and central obesity (OR: 3.94; 95% CI: 3.13-3.89), as well as sdLDL-C and DM status (OR: 1.98; 95% CI; 1.43-2.75) after adjusting the personal and clinical parameters. Conclusion: This study demonstrated that the increment of sdLDL-C level and central obesity affected DM status in Indonesian adults. It implies that the sdLDL-C was a potential biomarker to assess the risk of DM.Keywords: Central obesity, Diabetes mellitus, Hypertension, Indonesian adult, sdLDL-C

Abstract: Background: Morbidity of infectious diseases in developing countries is a public health concern because the prevalence is still high, particularly for children under five years. Vitamin A  intake was one of factors that may affect morbidity. Objective: The objective of this study was to analyze  relation between vitamin A supplementation, nutrition intake with vitamin A status and relation between vitamin A supllementation, nutrition intake, vitamin A status with morbidity.Method: The study was an cross-sectional study. This research was conductedin February-March 2016 in Kudus and Grobogan Central Java. Subjectsin this study were children aged 1-3 years(n=140). Retinol serum was collected by taking blood sample through the vein then was analyzed using HPLC, nutrients intake with food recall 2x24jam, and structured interviews with mother children. Data were analyzed with Chi-Square test. Results: The study found that 68 subjects (48.6%) were not took vitamin A supplemantation capsule. Prevalence of childrens had nutrient deficiency ( 〈 90% RDA) were relatively high 68.6% energy; 47.1% protein; 70.7% fat; and the prevalence of vitamin A defeciency ( 〈 77% RDA)  were relatively high 60%. A number of 24.2% subjects had low retinol serum ( 〈 20μg/dl). Supplementation vitamin A, fat and vitamin A intake correlated with retinol serum (p 〈 0.05). Supplementation vitamin A, intake of vitamin A, vitamin C, zinc and retinol serum correlated with morbidity (p 〈 0.05).Conclusion: Childrens who were not took vitamin A supplemantation capsule, deficiency intake of vitamin A, vitamin C, zinc and low retinol serum had higher morbidity.

Abstract: The harmful substances used in the batik industry may cause health problems to batik workers. Knowledge of occupational-related diseases is necessary for workers. This study evaluated the knowledge of batik workers about contact dermatitis and assessed their work-related skin complaints. This experimental study was conducted in Tanjung Bumi, Bangkalan district, Madura Island, Indonesia. Pre-test and post-test were conducted before and after the intervention of health education session. Fifty batik workers were involved in this study. The mean age of the subjects was 36.5 ± 10.201. Analysis with paired-samples t-test showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores (p = 0.040). It was found that almost half of the subjects experienced direct exposure to wax and dyes with forty-four percent and forty-two percent, respectively. The use of gloves while working was not common among the subjects with only thirty-four percent using gloves. The most complained symptom among the batik workers was dry skin. The knowledge about occupational contact dermatitis related to the batik industry’s work environment can be beneficial to prevent the incidence of the disease and raise awareness about the importance of maintaining a safe and healthy work environment among batik workers.

Abstract: Background: Optimal growth and development of children is an indicator of the quality of human resources. Stunting is a condition of linear growth retardation which is the result of a long-term lack of nutrients. The stunting problem prevention program is prioritized in the first 1000 days of and the bride and groom who will later become pregnant and give birth to offspring. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of a combination of nutritional education and nutritional supplementation on changes in the nutritional status of the prospective bride and groom to prevent stunting in newborns. Methods: The design was quasi-experimental with a pre-post intervention in Sumbawa Regency, West Nusa Tenggara in June 2020 to October 2021. Sample size: 126 of prospective brides aged 20-30 years who were divided into 3 groups. Data analysis used Paired t-test, Wilcoxon, ANOVA and Kruskal Wallis. Results: Mean BMI after intervention: 22.08±3.12 kg/m2. The intervention reduced the underweight category from 31 (24.6%) to 19 (15.1%). The average weight gain of pregnant women after the intervention was 63.08±7.02 kg. Statistical test there was a difference between groups (p = 0.000). The effect of intervention on infant anthropometry was 13 (11.21%) body length 〈 48 cm and 11 (9.48%) LBW and 10 (8.62%) abnormal head circumference. Conclusions: The intervention can change the parameters of the nutritional status of the subject and there is a relationship between weight gain during pregnancy and infant anthropometry (p=0.000).

Abstract: This study aimed to analyze the associations of maternal characteristics and nutritional status of primary caregivers with the occurrence of stunting in children aged 6 – 59 months from rural agricultural households in Indonesia. This study used a sequential explanatory mixed method design. It started with a cross-sectional survey, followed by a qualitative study to explore community perceptions related to findings from the quantitative analysis. The survey involved 200 mother and child dyads. multiple logistic regression was carried out with the dependent variable being the incidence of stunting in children, and maternal characteristics as independent variables. Data analysis showed that WDDS and the maternal length of education in years were significant predictors for the incidence of stunting in children. The adjusted odds ratio (AOR) for WDDS was 0.78 (95% CI 0.63 - 0.98), while for the length of education of mothers was 1.22 (95% CI 1.01 - 1.48). We also conducted a qualitative study to explore food distribution and utilization within the household. Qualitative data analysis showed that, except for pregnant mothers, “good food” was prioritized the least for mothers. The persistent barriers for utilization of quality and diverse food are access to such food rather than knowledge of what is considered “good food for health”. Increasing access and consumption of diverse foods for all mothers beyond pregnancies is an important factor for preventing stunting in Indonesian children from rural agricultural households.

The locations are chosen purposively, ie: Sukarame Village in Balik Bukit Subdistrict and Sekincau Village in Sekincau Subdistrict. The sixty respondents were chosen randomly using stratified sampling method. The data was analyzed descriptively and inferentially. Fresh food farmers in West Lampung District had low knowledge about GAP and also had attitude and behavior that was not appropriate with GAP. Activity in farm group and attitude about GAP had significant correlationship with behavior in production and post harvest management. The farmer’s attitude about GAP has bigger influence on the behavior than the activity in farm group 〈 /span 〉 〈 span style="font-size: 10pt;" 〉 . 〈 /span 〉 〈 /p 〉
