Abstract: The primary causes of low sesame production are a lack of high-yielding varieties, an inability to adjust to environmental challenges, and a poor response to enhanced crop management. The potential for improving sesame has been investigated using a variety of breeding approaches, including mutation and recombination breeding; however, these methods have only produced a minor increase in productivity. Recombination and mutant breeding have recently been proposed as novel, cutting-edge approaches to overcome the limitations of conventional breeding practices. This study was conducted to assess the recurrent mutagenesis efficacy of sesame crosses, followed by the isolation and evaluation of superior breeding lines that could be released as varieties in the future. In the F 4 M 4 generation, the populations were grown in a randomized block design (RBD), and the efficacy of recurrent mutagenesis was assessed in terms of variability parameters such as the mean, standard deviation, and coefficient of variation. During the F 5 M 5 generation, the materials were grown in three separate trials in Compact Family Block Design to evaluate the between-family and within-family variations, followed by the isolation of improved breeding lines based on per se performance. The improved breeding lines were further advanced to the F 6 M 6 generation for evaluation in three separate trials in an RBD. In the F6M6 generation, ANOVA, correlation, regression, path coefficient, and Mahalanobis’s D 2 analysis were computed, followed by the construction of selection indices to select superior lines. The results showed the importance of three or four EMS treatment cycles for sesame improvement in the F 4 M 4 generation. Twenty of the top lines based on per se performance (with a selection intensity of 27%) from each category in the F 5 M 5 generation were carried forward to the F 6 M 6 generation. In the F 6 M 6 generation, the top six breeding lines (with a selection intensity of 30%) from each category, for a total of 18 breeding lines, were chosen based on these index scores. These high-yielding micromutant lines could be subsequently released as varieties through multiplication trials with standard checks. After a thorough evaluation, these lines have the potential to replace the current varieties and increase production, productivity, and adoption of sesame in India.

Abstract: Can industrial marketers afford to choose unethical strategies? To answer this question, this study aims to use game theory to analyze whether an industrial marketer choosing and implementing an unethical strategy is successful in maximizing her market share across her strategies. Design/methodology/approach The competition between two industrial marketers is modeled as a strategic game for the market share of a product that is identical in all attributes except the production process. Each industrial marketer’s objective is to choose to implement either the ethical or the unethical production process to maximize her market share. Findings The study finds that both industrial marketers choosing to implement ethical strategies is the unique Nash equilibrium of the game. That is, an industrial marketer choosing to implement an unethical strategy in the production process will be unsuccessful in maximizing her market share when both the industrial marketers are rational. Research limitations/implications The study contributes to the literature on industrial marketing ethics, particularly that on product ethics, by showing that industrial marketers gain market share if they choose ethical strategies. Practical implications The study has implications for industrial marketing executives, as organizational consumers are increasingly aware of the strategies of industrial marketers. Failure to implement ethical strategies will cause industrial marketers to forgo their best possible market shares. Originality/value This study’s novelty lies in using a game theoretic approach to demonstrate the positive implications of ethical strategies for industrial marketers.

Abstract: Self-help groups (SHGs) have widely been accepted by developing nations for their contribution to inclusive development. Despite its importance and the recognition of the same, SHGs and their members face several challenges. The purpose of this paper is to comprehensively investigate the inhibiting factors affecting the effectiveness of women SHGs. The paper also proposes a roadmap for all the self-help promoting institutions, such as banks, state and central government, and non-government organizations to address the challenges. Design/methodology/approach The study adopts an exploratory research design to undertake this applied research. It uses phenomenographic and interpretative approaches. Qualitative data have been collected from 24 members belonging to eight SHGs from the eastern Indian state of Odisha with the help of a semi-structured interview schedule. The result has been analyzed by using content analysis. Findings The study finds that SHG members in Odisha face several challenges in the form of financial bottlenecks, entrepreneurial obstacles, capacity-building impediments, mentor-ship challenges, socio-structural challenges and group dynamics. Research limitations/implications The study finds many unique and contextual inhibiting factors, which are valuable additions to the existing literature. At the same time, the result may not be applicable to other kinds of SHGs, such as Alcoholic Anonymous, as their nature, composition and deliverables are quite different from the SHG that the current study has taken into consideration. Practical implications The proposed roadmap would be useful to policymakers, non-government organizations and other agencies involved in the promotion and capacity building of SHGs operating in Odisha in particular and India in general. Originality/value The literature is mainly concerned with the impact evaluation of SHG programs. This study investigates the challenges faced by SHGs in a systematic way and provides a roadmap to address the same in a comprehensive way.

Abstract: The scattering theory's main objective is to comprehend an object by hurling something at it. One can learn details about an object by observing how it bounces off other objects. The potential that exists between the two particles is the thing that one seeks to comprehend. In time-independent approach to scattering, one assumes that the incident beam has been activated for a very long time and that the entire system is in a stationary state. For short-range local potentials, the variable phase methodology is highly useful in solving quantum mechanical scattering problems. Variable phase methodology/phase-function technique has been explicitly utilized for non-relativistic nucleon-nucleon scattering phenomenon with the fundamental central local potential term and without spin-orbit force. Working under this methodology, scattering phase shifts, total scattering cross section and Differential cross section have been investigated for a new nuclear potential model “Shifted Deng-Fan potential”. Real nucleon-nucleon scattering systems (n-p) and (p-p) have been treated for this purpose with partial waves up to l = 2 in the low and moderate energy region. For l 〉 0 waves, interacting repulsive barrier potential has been incorporated with the existing central part. Our results for the considered potential model show a close contest with that of the experimental data.

Abstract: Diabetes mellitus, which has high rates of disability and mortality, is one of the main causes of public health concerns worldwide. It currently poses serious medical and societal issues. Different bio-analytical techniques have been developed to identify the pharmaceutical formulation of the anti-diabetic drug. Due to the continual requirement to achieve improved sensitivity, accuracy, and speed of analysis in complex biological samples, the development of bio-analytical sample preparation techniques has grown more difficult over time (e.g., blood, serum, plasma, saliva, feces, and urine). This is a mini review, and its goal is to analyze how LC-MS/MS has been used to for the pharmaceutical formulation of the anti-diabetic drugs. The method was validated for linearity, accuracy, precision, specificity, selectivity, and stability.

Abstract: Crop diversification is considered as a pathway for holistic agricultural development. Odisha with a rural sex ra- tio of 989 bears a tradition of dynamic involvement of women in agriculture across the operations. The present pa- per examines the intricacies of crop diversification in Odisha in women perspective. The decadal data analysis (201019) indicated sluggishness and inconsistency in crop diversification in the state. A regional divide in spread of crop diversification as well as women cultivators was observed in southern districts vis--vis coastal districts of Odisha. Significant correlation was observed among female cultivators, female agricultural work participation rate, mechanization, and livestock with crop diversification. Based on the panel data analysis, the study concluded that in Odisha; districts with higher female cultivators and maximum Agricultural work participation rate contributed more to crop diversification.
