    Abstract: Brazillian authorities reported a total of 16.3 million cases and 454.000 deaths during COVID-19 pandemic in Brazil by may 2021. It became necessary to educate healthcare professionals on diagnosis and treatment of the syndrome. Game based learning surfaced as an effective alternative, since it promotes critical thinking and problem solving skills. A team of Brazilian and Peruvian students, physicians, designers and programmers gathered to create a decision based computer game that simulates a hospital scenario and allows medical students to analise, make decisions and receive feedback. This work describes the creative process and showcase the initial version of the software. Methods Professors and students of Medicine, Information Technology (IT), Design and Architecture from Brazil and Peru assembled a team in order to develop the computer game. Clinical cases were created by the medical students and professors, comprising medical procedures for the treatment and management of COVID 19, and a video game script was developed exploring gamification principles of challenge, objectivity, persistence, failure, reward and feedback. Algorithms (image 1) were created, under supervision of professors of Medicine, to define possible courses of action and outcomes (e.g. gain or loss of points, improvement or worsening of the patient). Students of Design created artistic elements, and IT students programmed with a game engine software. This fluxogram, written in portuguese, describes in detail all the possible courses of actions that can be exercised by the player. It is created by a team of Professors of Medicine and medical students, in accordance with evidence-based guidelines. Primarily, this document guides the programmers and designers throughout the development phase of the game. Results Initially, an expandable minimum viable product was obtained. The game, visualized on image 2, consists in a non-playable character and a playable character (i.e. doctor), with a scenario and a dialogue script simulating a clinical examination of a COVID 19 patient. The player can interact with certain elements within the game, e.g. the computer and other characters, to retrieve test results or start dialogues with relevant information. Hospital scenario and dialogue window between doctor (player in black) and patient (non playable character) are displayer in the game engine software (Unity 2D). On the bottom half of the screen, the dialogue box allows the player to collect the patient’s medical history. The player can interact with certain elements to obtain relevant information to make decision and progress in the game. Conclusion The game allows medical students to practice diagnosis and treatment of COVID 19. Future versions will include assessment reports of player’s actions, and a new score system will be implemented. New diseases will be incorporated in the gameplay to match the variety of scenarios offered by real hospitals and patients.     Abstract: A intensa imigração venezuelana para Roraima tem impactado os serviços de saúde como um todo. Este estudo teve como objetivo analisar a satisfação dos imigrantes com o acesso e assistência hospitalares em Boa Vista, comparando as experiências nesses serviços com as vivenciadas no sistema de saúde venezuelano. Trata-se de um estudo qualitativo, aprovado por Comitê de Ética em Pesquisa, realizado com 23 imigrantes venezuelanos residentes no Brasil. O instrumento foi uma entrevista semiestruturada aliada à observação participante. A análise dos dados se baseou em Bardin e é fundamentada pela teoria da realização da expectativa. A situação do sistema público de saúde da Venezuela está em colapso, faltando materiais, profissionais e medicamentos. Existe alta satisfação com os serviços de saúde estudados, os quais em contexto brasileiro, mesmo quando não são expoentes de qualidade. Para os participantes, quase não há entraves nas experiências hospitalares, exceto o idioma e preconceito de nacionalidade. A elevada satisfação com os serviços se dá possivelmente por conta de baixas expectativas dos participantes em relação às experiências nos serviços de saúde. Este estudo foi o pioneiro nessa vertente e será precursor para futuras investigações e para (re)adequação dos serviços de saúde a essa nova realidade.

    Abstract: The present study evaluated whether melatonin administered during adolescence can prevent the deleterious effects produced by alcohol on the liver. Thirty albino female rats (Rattus norvegicus albinus), 40 days old, virgins, weighing approximately 150±10g, from the Wistar lineage and were divided into the following groups: I – Adolescent rats that did not receive alcohol and euthanized at 60 days of life; II – Adolescent rats subjected to chronic alcohol consumption and euthanized at 60 days of life; III – Adolescent rats subjected to chronic alcohol consumption and simultaneously treated with melatonin, and euthanized at 60 days of life. The collected organs underwent histological processing and to obtain the results, morphometric, histopathological and histochemical analyzes were performed. Alcohol was administered by gavage. intragastric injection at a dosage of 3 g/Kg of ethyl alcohol in the rats of groups II and III for 20 days. Melatonin was administered in daily injections of 0.8 mg/Kg, always at the beginning of the night, intraperitoneally for 20 days. When analyzing the weight of the animals, no significant difference was observed between the groups. The animals in group II presented alterations in the livers such as congestion of the centrilobular vein, hepatocellular ballooning, microgoticular steatosis, leukocyte infiltrate, several pyknotic nuclei in the livers, increase in lobular parenchyma and reduction in non-lobular parenchyma, greater deposition of collagen and reduction of glycogen. Melatonin treatment prevented all these changes. With this, we can conclude that melatonin has great therapeutic potential in the prevention of liver damage in adolescent rats subjected to moderate alcohol consumption, in addition to positive effects on the deposition of collagen and glycogen in the liver.

    Abstract: O presente estudo avaliou se a administração de melatonina durante a adolescência pode prevenir os efeitos prejudiciais produzidos pelo álcool no fígado. Trinta ratos albinos (Rattus norvegicus albinus), fêmeas, com 40 dias de idade, virgens, pesando aproximadamente 150±10g, da linhagem Wistar, foram divididas nos seguintes grupos: I – Ratos adolescentes que não receberam álcool e foram sacrificadas aos 60 dias de vida; II – Ratos adolescentes submetidas ao consumo crônico de álcool e sacrificadas aos 60 dias de vida; III – Ratos adolescentes submetidas ao consumo crônico de álcool e simultaneamente tratadas com melatonina, e sacrificadas aos 60 dias de vida. Os órgãos coletados passaram por processamento histológico e, para obter os resultados, foram realizadas análises morfométricas, histopatológicas e histoquímicas. O álcool foi administrado por gavagem, por injeção intragástrica, na dose de 3 g/Kg de álcool etílico nos ratos dos grupos II e III, por 20 dias. A melatonina foi administrada em injeções diárias de 0,8 mg/Kg, sempre no início da noite, intraperitonealmente, por 20 dias. Ao analisar o peso dos animais, não foi observada diferença significativa entre os grupos. Os animais do grupo II apresentaram alterações nos fígados, como congestão da veia centrolobular, balonamento hepatocelular, esteatose microgoticular, infiltrado leucocitário, vários núcleos picnóticos nos fígados, aumento no parênquima lobular e redução no parênquima não lobular, maior deposição de colágeno e redução de glicogênio. O tratamento com melatonina preveniu todas essas mudanças. Com isso, podemos concluir que a melatonina possui grande potencial terapêutico na prevenção de danos hepáticos em ratos adolescentes submetidas ao consumo moderado de álcool, além de efeitos positivos na deposição de colágeno e glicogênio no fígado.

    Abstract: El presente estudio evaluó si la melatonina administrada durante la adolescencia puede prevenir los efectos perjudiciales producidos por el alcohol en el hígado. Se utilizaron treinta ratas albinas hembra (Rattus norvegicus albinus), de 40 días de edad, vírgenes, con un peso aproximado de 150±10g, de la línea Wistar, y se dividieron en los siguientes grupos: I – Ratas adolescentes que no recibieron alcohol y fueron sacrificadas a los 60 días de vida; II – Ratas adolescentes sometidas a consumo crónico de alcohol y sacrificadas a los 60 días de vida; III – Ratas adolescentes sometidas a consumo crónico de alcohol y tratadas simultáneamente con melatonina, y sacrificadas a los 60 días de vida. Los órganos recolectados fueron sometidos a procesamiento histológico y para obtener los resultados se realizaron análisis morfométricos, histopatológicos e histoquímicos. El alcohol se administró por gavage (sonda gástrica) en una dosis de 3 g/Kg de alcohol etílico en las ratas de los grupos II y III durante 20 días. La melatonina se administró en inyecciones diarias de 0,8 mg/Kg, siempre al inicio de la noche, por vía intraperitoneal durante 20 días. Al analizar el peso de los animales, no se observaron diferencias significativas entre los grupos. Los animales del grupo II presentaron alteraciones en los hígados, como congestión de la vena centrolobulillar, hepatocelular, microgoticular, infiltrado leucocitario, varios núcleos picnóticos en los hígados, aumento del parénquima lobulillar y reducción del parénquima no lobulillar, mayor deposición de colágeno y reducción de glucógeno. El tratamiento con melatonina previno todos estos cambios. Con esto, podemos concluir que la melatonina tiene un gran potencial terapéutico en la prevención del daño hepático en ratas adolescentes expuestas a un consumo moderado de alcohol, además de efectos positivos en la deposición de colágeno y glucógeno en el hígado.

    Abstract: El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar si la administración de melatonina durante el embarazo y la lactancia puede mitigar el daño hepático y renal inducido por el alcohol en la descendencia. Se formaron tres grupos con la descendencia de 30 ratas Wistar albinas del bioterio de la UFRPE: grupo de control, descendencia de ratas que no consumieron alcohol; grupo de alcohol, descendencia de ratas que consumieron alcohol; grupo de alcohol+mel, descendencia de ratas que consumieron alcohol y recibieron melatonina. Las ratas hembra recibieron 3 g/Kg de alcohol y 0.8 mg/Kg de melatonina durante el período gestacional y de lactancia. Las crías de rata fueron sacrificadas a los 30 días de edad. Los órganos recolectados fueron sometidos a procedimientos histológicos para análisis morfométricos, histopatológicos y estadísticos. En el hígado del grupo de alcohol, se observó congestión en las venas portal y centrolobulares, esteatosis y alteraciones en el tamaño del parénquima hepático, que no estaban presentes en los grupos de alcohol+mel y control. En el grupo de alcohol, los riñones también mostraron congestión en el área cortical, sin espacio subcapsular y con tamaño alterado de los glomérulos; en cambio, el grupo tratado con melatonina no presentó alteraciones en estos órganos. Los análisis estadísticos de los pesos y longitudes del grupo de alcohol+mel tampoco revelaron alteraciones significativas en comparación con el grupo expuesto solo al alcohol. Así, la melatonina actuó de manera positiva, interfiriendo y mitigando los efectos perjudiciales que el etanol tenía en el hígado, los riñones, el peso y la longitud de la descendencia cuyas madres fueron sometidas a un consumo crónico de alcohol.

    Abstract: Discovering exoplanets and satellites in habitable zones within and beyond our solar system has sparked intrigue in planetary setting varieties that could support life. Based on our understanding of life on Earth, we can shed light on the origin, evolution, and future of Earth-like organisms in the galaxy and predict extinct or extant extraterrestrial life. Hence, extremophiles thriving in mimic outer space environments are particularly interesting as they exhibit traits that preponderate our comprehension regarding the possibility of life elsewhere and in situ life detection. Additionally, many extremophiles have been used for astrobiological research model organisms to unveil native alien life or possible life-produced metabolites outside Earth. Laboratory-based simulation chambers mimic this outer space condition, helping researchers study life beyond Earth in near identical conditions and understand molecular mechanisms for survival. This review summarizes relevant studies with isolated microorganisms from extreme analog Earth environments, harnessing them as promising astrobiological model candidates for pursuing life potentialities in other planetary bodies. We also highlight the necessity of environmental simulation chamber approaches for mimicking extraterrestrial habitats.

    Abstract: The aim of this research was to assess whether the administration of melatonin during pregnancy and lactation can mitigate alcohol-induced liver and kidney damage in the offspring. Three groups were formed with the offspring of 30 albino Wistar rats from the UFRPE bioterium: control group – Offspring of rats that did not consume alcohol; alcohol group – Offspring of rats that consumed alcohol; alcohol+mel group – Offspring of rats that consumed alcohol and received melatonin. The female rats received 3 g/Kg of alcohol and 0.8 mg/Kg of melatonin during the gestational and lactation period. The rat pups were euthanized at 30 days of age. The collected organs underwent histological procedures for morphometric, histopathological and statistical analyses. In the liver of the alcohol group, congestion in the portal and centrolobular veins, steatosis, and alterations in the sizes of hepatic parenchyma were observed, which were not present in the alcohol+mel and control groups. In the alcohol group, the kidneys also showed congestion in the cortical area, without the subcapsular space and with altered glomerulus size, on the other hand, the group treated with melatonin did not present alterations in these organs. The statistical analyses of the weights and lengths of the alcohol+mel group also did not reveal any significant alterations when compared to the group exposed only to alcohol. Thus, melatonin acted positively, interfering and mitigating the harmful effects that ethanol had on the liver, kidneys, weight and length of offspring whose mothers were subjected to chronic alcohol consumption.

    Abstract: O objetivo desta pesquisa foi avaliar se a administração de melatonina durante a gravidez e lactação pode atenuar os danos no fígado e nos rins induzidos pelo álcool na prole. Foram formados três grupos com a prole de 30 ratas albinas Wistar do biotério da UFRPE: grupo controle – Prole de ratas que não consumiram álcool; grupo álcool – Prole de ratas que consumiram álcool; grupo álcool+mel – Prole de ratas que consumiram álcool e receberam melatonina. As ratas fêmeas receberam 3 g/Kg de álcool e 0,8 mg/Kg de melatonina durante o período gestacional e de lactação. Os filhotes de rato foram eutanasiados aos 30 dias de idade. Os órgãos coletados foram submetidos a procedimentos histológicos para análises morfométricas, histopatológicas e estatísticas. No fígado do grupo álcool, foram observadas congestão nas veias portais e centrolobulares, esteatose e alterações nos tamanhos do parênquima hepático, que não estavam presentes nos grupos álcool+mel e controle. No grupo álcool, os rins também mostraram congestão na área cortical, sem o espaço subcapsular e com tamanho glomerular alterado; por outro lado, o grupo tratado com melatonina não apresentou alterações nesses órgãos. As análises estatísticas dos pesos e comprimentos do grupo álcool+mel também não revelaram alterações significativas quando comparadas ao grupo exposto apenas ao álcool. Assim, a melatonina atuou de forma positiva, interferindo e atenuando os efeitos prejudiciais que o etanol teve no fígado, rins, peso e comprimento da prole cujas mães foram submetidas ao consumo crônico de álcool.
