Abstract: Consumer awareness was increasing of food safety and food security along with the high population growth rate and increasing quality of life, nanotechnology was an important concern to be able to meet future demand for livestock products. The application of nanostructured particles has been widely explored to produce livestock products with high food safety and food security. Nanotechnology can also be applied to produce food with high protein without slaughtering livestock in the form of artificial meat whose process is developed in the laboratory. Nutritional quality and food quantity in the future can also be met through the application of nanotechnology. The quality and freshness of livestock products that can be maintained during the transportation process is a major concern that can be met through the application of nanostructured particles in the form of flexible packaging, laminates, and edible coatings. Nanotechnology can change the particle size from eggshell bio-waste into nanoparticles that have high added value. The application of nanotechnology has a very wide scope in livestock products.

Abstract: Invertases (beta-D-fructofuranosidase, E.C. 3.2.1.26) are the key enzymes involved in sucrose metabolism in sugarcane plants. They are highly correlated with sucrose and reducing sugar contents during plant growth. The sugarcane plants have two kinds of invertases, namely neutral invertase (NI) and acid invertase (AI). They have different function in sucrose accumulation. The research aimed to study the role of AI and NI in accumulation of reducing sugar during storage of sugarcane stems. Plant materials of 18-month-old field grown sugarcane of the commercial variety R-579 (wet-land) and M 442-51 (dry-land) were used. Three internodes were sampled to represent immature (internode 1-8/F1), maturing (internode 9-16/F2), and mature (internode 17-24/F3) stem tissues. All tissues were stored for 0-9 days at room temperature (28-32oC) and each day, the sample 〈 br / 〉 was extracted to determine invertase activity, total soluble protein, and sugar contents. This observation was valid for invertase activity expressed on a protein basis. At the initiate 〈 br / 〉 harvested (0-3 days), NI had a higher specific activity than AI in the sucrose-accumulating region of the sugarcane stems. Negative significant correlation was found between NI specific activity and sucrose accumulation (r2 = 0.41, P & lt; 0.05). AI showed a higher specific activity after 4 days harvested and had negative correlation with sucrose accumulation (r2 = 0.40, P & lt; 0.05). These results showed that NI could be more  responsible in sucrose hydrolisis than AI at early storage of sugarcane stems.

Abstract: ABSTRACT Green Deli Rose Apples (Syzygium samarangense) has several beneficial properties in terms of usability, cultivation, health, and economy. The intensive development of green deli rose apples plants is needed given increasing demand, needs, and has bright prospects. One of the efforts to develop green deli rose apples plants is through handling plant propagation. Propagation of green deli rose apples can be done in two ways, namely generative and vegetative. Generative propagation requires a relatively long time, while vegetative propagation have difficult to growth in rooted. Shoot-cuttings is one of the vegetative propagation that has been chosen because it is easier to root than the old parts of the plant. The use of plant growth regulators (PGR) is needed to stimulate green deli rose apples shoot-cuttings rooting. Alternative PGR is giving shallot extract and coconut water as a substitute for synthetic auxin which has a relatively expensive price. The purpose of this study was to determine the combination of the effect of the concentration shallot extract and coconut water, as well as to find out the concentration of shallot extracts and coconut water which was most influential on the growth of shoot-cutting of green deli rose apples. The extract shallot concentration used is control, 0,5%, 1,0%, and 1,5%. The coconut water concentration used is control, 20%, 30% and 40%. Data obtained next analyzed and tested using DMRT α 5%. The result showed te best treatment combination for concentration shallot extract of 0,5% and coconut water of 20%.   Keywords: greend deli rose apples, shoot-cutting, shallot extract, coconut water ABSTRAK Jambu air madu deli hijau (MDH) (Syzygium samarangense) memiliki beberapa sifat yang menguntungkan baik dari segi kegunaan, budidaya, kesehatan, maupun ekonomi. Abstract: Abstract. Pradipta S, Siswoyo TA, Ubaidillah M. 2023. Nutraceuticals and bioactive properties of local Java pigmented rice. Biodiversitas 24: 571-582. Pigmented rice is used in nutraceuticals and has health benefits, on the other side, the characterization of local pigmented rice has not been widely observed. This research aimed to determine the nutraceutical and bioactive properties of ten pigmented Indonesian rice varieties (Segreg, Merah SP, Gogo Niti II, Mansur. Merah Wangi, MS Pendek, Super Manggis, Lamongan I, Aek Sibundong, and Seksek). The proximate composition of pigmented rice was performed based on standard methods. The antioxidant activity was carried out using DPPH radical scavenging activity. Morphological characteristics of these pigmented rice were the weight of 1000 grains ranges 17.47-23.10 g, with slender, medium, and bold shape categories. The proximate analysis revealed a significant difference (p 〈 0.05) among cultivars, excluding the lipid. Amylose content varied between 17.43-25.71%. The lowest amylose cultivar had a high peak, trough, and final viscosities but a low pasting temperature. The gelatinization enthalpy was 0.83-1.93 J/g, and the thermal properties of the onset were between 78.6-83.60ºC. The peak was 81.90-86.20ºC, and the conclusion temperature was between 86.00-89.80ºC. The functional properties of the water absorption index were 5.1-7.42 g/g. The water solubility index was 2.32-7.32%, the oil absorption index was 0.92-1.67 g/g, and the bulk density was 0.56-0.70 g/cm3. The total phenolic range was 2.69-9.51 mg GAE/g, and flavonoids were between 0.61-2.31 mg QE/g. Antioxidant activity has been positively correlated with the percentage of flavonoids in phenolics.

Abstract: Abstract. Quintao G, Ubaidillah M, Hartatik S, Khofifa RAN, Siswoyo TA. 2023. The morpho-physiological and gene expression of East Timor’s local rice plant (Oryza sativa) response to drought and salinity stress. Biodiversitas 24: 4548-4556. East Timor is rich in local rice varieties, such as Silaun, Ime Buci, Me Klan, Me Likan, Me Meak, Me Taek, and Umak Klete. These varieties are tolerant to drought and salinity stress. These superior characteristics emerge as the coping strategy of the rice plants toward environmental conditions such as mountainous, upland planting areas without irrigation networks and coastal regions with high salinity levels. This study determined the tolerance response of East Timor's local rice to drought and salinity stresses. This study was designed in a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors. The first factor, i.e., rice varieties, consisted of 8 varieties, i.e., Silaun (V1), Ime Buci (V2), Me Klan (V3), Me Likan (V4), Me Meak (V5), Me Taek (V6), Umak Klete (V7), and IR-64 (V8) and the second factor was the abiotic stress treatments, namely no treatment or control (P0), 10% PEG treatment (P1), and 150 mM NaCl treatment (P2). The parameters observed were morpho-physiology and biochemical characteristics of the plants. The results showed that the Silaun local rice variety from East Timor was tolerant to drought and salinity, supported by the gene expressions for tolerance to drought and salinity stress.

Abstract: Ciplukan (Physalis angulata L.) is one of the plants from the class of herbal plants that is good to be developed because people are starting to choose herbal treatment. The content of ciplukan fruit is phenolic and flavonoid. Thus, technology for enlargement and increasing fruit content with the giberellin (GA3) hormone is needed. GA3 functions to stimulate the formation, development of fruit and increase the biosynthesis of secondary metabolites. This study aimed to determine the influence of the GA3 hormone on the phenolic content and antioxidant activity in ciplukan fruit. The experimental design used RAL 5 treatments: GA3 concentrations of 0 ppm (P0), 15 ppm (P1), 20 ppm (P2), 25 ppm (P3), and 30 ppm (P4). The parameters studied were the number of fruit, fruit size, fresh weight of fruit, total phenolic, total flavonoid, and antioxidant activity (DPPH method) in ciplukan fruit. The results showed that the concentration of 30 ppm (P4) of GA3 was showed the highest values on the number of fruits (33±3.53 g), fruit length (14.23±0.35 mm), width (12.87±0.39 mm), and fresh fruit weight (38.6±3.97 g) without calyx. The concentration of 30 ppm (P4) also affected the phenolic content (2.52±0.23 mgGAE/g), flavonoids (2.43±0.18 mgQE/g), and IC50 value of antioxidant activity (60.59 g/mL).
