    Abstract: On top of a crystalline silicon wafer, heterojunction solar cells have a thin layer of amorphous silicon (a-Si) placed on it. The efficiency of heterojunction solar cells can be increased by decreasing the electron complex loss by adding an inherent passivation layer to a monocrystalline silicon (c-Si) substrate. In this study, we examine the development of the intrinsic passivation layer deposition technique on c-Si substrates over the previous ten years by several research teams. First, a description of the structure, benefits, and passivation of heterojunction solar cells is given. Following that, the impact of modifying process variables on the functionality of the passivation layer and cell efficiency is explored in terms of the passivation material, hydrogen dilution ratio, substrate temperature, and post-deposition annealing. Last but not least, the ideal process parameters are summed up and potential future research areas are predicted. One of the best ways to increase the conversion efficiency of heterojunction solar cells is through surface passivation technology, and future domestic and international research will focus heavily on the process technology of its intrinsic passivation layer.

    Abstract: Silicon heterojunction (SHJ) solar cells are increasingly attracting attention due to their low-temperature processing, lean steps, significant temperature coefficient, and their high bifacial capability. The high efficiency and thin wafer nature of SHJ solar cells make them ideal for use as high-efficiency solar cells. However, the complicated nature of the passivation layer and prior cleaning render a well-passivated surface difficult to achieve. In this study, developments and the classification of surface defect removal and passivation technologies are explored. Further, surface cleaning and passivation technologies of high-efficiency SHJ solar cells within the last five years are reviewed and summarized.

    Abstract: The complete proviral sequence of a Muscovy duck-origin reticuloendotheliosis virus (REV) associated with spontaneously occurring neoplastic disease in 2011 in Zhejiang province, China, was determined. Comparative sequence analyses indicate that the present REV is most closely related to the chicken-origin REV isolate HLJR0901 and the goose-origin isolate Goose/3410/06. These findings suggest that chickens or geese may transmit the REV to Muscovy ducks.

    Abstract: Hepatitis B virus (HBV)-related hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the sixth most common cancer worldwide, and the viral X protein (HBx) is an etiological factor in HCC development. HBx is a high-turnover protein, but knowledge of the role of deubiquitinating enzymes (DUBs) in maintaining HBx homeostasis is very limited. We used a 74-DUB library-based yeast two-hybrid assay and determined that a novel DUB, valosin-containing protein-interacting protein 1 (VCPIP1), interacted with HBx. VCPIP1 and its C-terminal amino acids 863 to 1221 upregulated the HBx protein expression, with or without HBV infection. Mechanistically, VCPIP1 stabilized HBx protein through a ubiquitin-independent pathway, which was validated by the HBx ubiquitination site mutant plasmid. Coimmunoprecipitation assays demonstrated the potency of VCPIP1 in recruiting 26S proteasome regulatory subunit 6A (PSMC3) and forming a ternary complex with HBx through mutual interaction. In vitro , purified His-tagged PSMC3 protein rescued HBx degradation induced by the 20S proteasome, and in vivo VCPIP1 synergized the mechanism. Functionally, HBx specifically binding to VCPIP1 significantly enhanced the transcriptional transactivation of HBx by activating NF-κB, AP-1, and SP-1 and inhibited hepatoma cell clonogenicity in Huh7 and HepG2 cells. Moreover, we further demonstrated that overexpression of VCPIP1 significantly affected the HBV covalently closed circular DNA (cccDNA) transcription in HBV-infected HepG2-NTCP cells. Altogether, our results indicate a novel mechanism by which VCPIP1 recruits PSMC3 to bind with HBx, stabilizing it in a ubiquitin-independent manner, which might be critical for developing DUB inhibitors in the future. IMPORTANCE HBx is a multifunctional viral oncoprotein that plays an essential role in the viral life cycle and hepatocarcinogenesis. HBx degradation occurs through the ubiquitin-proteasome system (UPS). However, whether novel compartments of the DUBs in the UPS also act in regulating HBx stability is not fully understood. Here, for the first time, we defined VCPIP1 as a novel DUB for preventing HBx degradation by the 20S proteasome in a ubiquitin-independent manner. PSMC3, encoding the 26S proteasome regulatory subunit, directly stabilized HBx through physical binding instead of a common approach in protein degradation, serving as the key downstream effector of VCPIP1 on HBx. Therefore, the ternary binding pattern between VCPIP1, HBx, and PSMC3 is initiated for the first time, which eventually promotes HBx stability and its functions. Our findings provide novel insights into host-virus cross talk by targeting DUBs in the UPS.

    Abstract: Some documented evidences proved small RNAs (sRNA) and targeted genes are involved in mammalian testicular development and spermatogenesis. However, the detailed molecular regulation mechanisms of them remain largely unknown so far. In this study, we obtained a total of 10,716 mRNAs, 67 miRNAs and 16,953 piRNAs which were differentially expressed between LC and LW pig breeds or between the two sexual maturity stages. Of which, we identified 16 miRNAs and 28 targeted genes possibly related to spermatogenesis; 14 miRNA and 18 targeted genes probably associated with cell adhesion related testis development. We also annotated 579 piRNAs which could potentially regulate cell death, nucleosome organization and other basic biology process, which implied that those piRNAs might be involved in sexual maturation difference. The integrated network analysis results suggested that some differentially expressed genes were involved in spermatogenesis through the ECM–receptor interaction, focal adhesion, Wnt and PI3K–Akt signaling pathways, some particular miRNAs have the negative regulation roles and some special piRNAs have the positive and negative regulation roles in testicular development. Our data provide novel insights into the molecular expression and regulation similarities and diversities of spermatogenesis and testicular development in different pig breeds at different stages of sexual maturity.

    Abstract: A range pull-back device, such as a machine-related range shifter (MRS) or a universal patient-related range shifter (UPRS), is needed in pencil beam scanning technique to treat shallow tumors. Methods Three UPRS made by QFix (Avondale, PA, USA) allow treating targets across the body: U-shaped bolus (UB), anterior lateral bolus (ALB), and couch top bolus. Head-and-neck (HN) patients who used the UPRS were tested. The in-air spot sizes were measured and compared in this study at air gaps: 6 cm, 16 cm, and 26 cm. Measurements were performed in a solid water phantom using a single-field optimization pencil beam scanning field with the ALB placed at 0, 10, and 20 cm air gaps. The two-dimensional dose maps at the middle of the spread-out Bragg peak were measured using ion chamber array MatriXX PT (IBA-Dosimetry, Schwarzenbruck, Germany) located at isocenter and compared with the treatment planning system. Results A UPRS can be consistently placed close to the patient and maintains a relatively small spot size resulting in improved dose distributions. However, when a UPRS is non-removable (e.g. thick couch top), the quality of volumetric imaging is degraded due to their high Z material construction, hindering the value of Image-Guided Radiation Therapy (IGRT). Limitations of using UPRS with small air gaps include reduced couch weight limit, potential collision with patient or immobilization devices, and challenges using non-coplanar fields with certain UPRS. Our experience showed the combination of a U-shaped bolus exclusively for an HN target and an MRS as the complimentary device for head-and-neck targets as well as for all other treatment sites may be ideal to preserve the dosimetric advantages of pencil beam scanning proton treatments across the body. Conclusion We have described how to implement UPRS and MRS for various clinical indications using the PBS technique, and comprehensively reviewed the advantage and disadvantages of UPRS and MRS. We recommend the removable UB only to be employed for the brain and HN treatments while an automated MRS is used for all proton beams that require RS but not convenient or feasible to use UB.
