Abstract: Occupational diseases are present worldwide. Dentists believe that they are at a higher risk for development of musculoskeletal disorders due to the postures attained at work. Hence, we conducted a study for understanding the prevalence of such ailments amongst the paedodontist population. We employed a cross-sectional study of 270 paedodontists who were selected at random and were asked to complete a self-administered questionnaire. The questions were about personal characteristics, job history, specific work habits and mostly pertaining to clinical dentistry with details of any recent occurrence of neck or back pain. Results tabulated showed a 79.6 % of the paedodontists reported having experienced at least one episode of neck or back pain in the immediate past 12 months. This value is way above the occurrence of similar complaints seen among the general population which is estimated to be around 55%. The study concluded indicating that the incidence of neck and back pain among dentists is higher than general population. This may be attributed to extreme postures that may be attained during the clinical work and which may be extreme in paediatric dentists.

Abstract:  Silver diamine fluoride (SDF) solution is being used in arresting dental caries in countries throughout the world since the 1970s. The mechanism of action is that silver-salts promote dentin sclerosis/calcification, silver nitrate has anti-microbial effects, and fluoride helps in the process of remineralization and prevention. The aim of this study is to evaluate the bond strength of posterior restorative material with tooth treated with silver diamine fluoride using universal testing machine 60 premolar tooth were sectioned transversally and each root was embedded in cold-cure epoxy resin. The labial tooth surface was wet ground using silicon carbide discs to prepare a flat superficial dentin. The tooth were conditioned using 10% polyacrylic acid, and divided accordingly. Two increments of resin composite were placed into the plastic tubes of size 5mm X 3mm and each increments were light polymerized for 40 seconds. The same procedure was followed for glass ionomer cement. All specimens were stored at 37 in water for 24hrs before testing. The push out bond strength analysis was tested using the universal testing machine. The maximum push out bond strength is seen in GIC in dentin-21.85 N/mm, followed by the group with composite-19.27 N/mm and with the lowest value in the group containing SDF+KI+GIC-3.601 N/mm. Addition of Potassium iodide used to reduce the staining of the SDF does affect the bond strength of the restoration to dentin. GIC has the best bond strength with tooth, followed by composite among the groups.

Abstract: Dental caries is considered as one of the most serious dental diseases that results in localized dissolution and destruction of the calcified tooth tissues. As possible alternatives to conventional techniques of caries removal, chemo mechanical caries removal systems have emerged. AIM: To clinically observe the advantages of Chemo-mechanical method of caries removal over Conventional technique. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 64 teeth of 32children with class 1 open carious lesions were selected for the study from the school dental clinic after taking written consent. They were divided into two equal groups according to method of caries removal (32 chemomechanical and 32 conventional from both primary and permanent teeth respectively). In Group I, caries was removed using the carie-care system and in Group II, with the conventional drill and were restored equally with amalgam and ketac molar respectively. The restored teeth were followed up after 1 week, 1 month, 6 months and 1 year respectively for its clinical success. RESULTS: The results were subjected to statistical analysis using students paired t-test and chi-square tests. It showed that though Chemomechanical technique took a marginal increase in time compared to the conventional technique, it was found to be more comfortable for all the children. Amalgam restorations showed better retention compared to ketac molar restorations in both the techniques. CONCLUSION: Chemomechanical technique though time consuming is definitely superior compared to conventional technique in pediatric dentistry, provided we use a less technique sensitive restorative material which retains in the oral cavity for longer period of time. It is definitely a better treatment protocol in school based dental treatment compared to conventional technique

Abstract: Background Traditional classroom lectures have been the backbone of the education system for a long time although this method is most effective but it may not always permit active engagement with the matter and learn it. In contrast, active teaching formats such as fishbowl and snowball techniques allow students to participate in the task of attaining knowledge by shifting the target from preceptor to student, thereby allowing a better understanding of the concepts. Methodology A total of 80 final-year undergraduate dental students were included in this study. Each student was informed regarding study design and protocol. A lecture on the principles of Pediatric Endodontics was delivered to the students in small groups using the routine virtual method, following which a pre-test activity questionnaire and formal thinking questionnaire were given to the students for scoring. Following this, the class of 80 was divided into smaller groups of four each and the Fishbowl–snowball activity was performed. A post-test activity questionnaire and formal thinking questionnaire were given once again to the students for scoring. The mean pre and post-test scores were statistically analyzed using paired t-test by statistical software SPSS version 20. A p-value of  〈  0.05 was considered significant. Results The overall mean difference between pre and post-test activity and formal thinking scores was seen to be statistically significant (p  〈  0.001). Conclusion It was seen that a combination of fishbowl and snowball method of teaching led to more satisfactory results as compared with the routine classroom teaching method.

Abstract: Photobiomodulation therapy (PBMT), is the ability to modulate cell growth, survival, and differentiation processes of cells using optimal amount of energy ,not causing phototoxicity . It includes a wide range of electromagnetic wavelengths such as broadband lights, LEDs, and lasers that may have both photo stimulation and photo inhibitory effects on the target tissues, each of which can be used in therapeutic applications. Some of the benets of using PBMTin dentistry include reducing dentin sensitivity to tactile and thermal stimulations, improving dentin formation from dental pulp, reducing inammation of oral mucosa, accelerating bone formation, reducing pain after all types of dental treatments, and improving wound healing processes. In this review of literature, we emphasize that PBMT itself or as an adjunct can have a crucial role in decreasing postoperative dental pain, increasing depth of anesthesia during cavity preparation, decreasing tooth hypersensitivity, reducing inammation of the tissues, and healing of denture stomatiti
