Kurzfassung:
The dependence of the catalytic activity of semiconducting mixed oxide catalysts, recently elucidated by the authors, on the thermal activation energy of the charge carriers has been checked by means of new experiments and is now interpreted assuming quantum‐chemical resonance effects. On this basis, a high catalytic activity appears to result if the total energy of the charge carriers of the catalyst corresponds with the promotion energy of one of the interacting molecules. This can be deduced from new catalytic investigations on 3‐ and 4‐component catalyst systems of the oxides of Mn, Co, Cu and Ag using the CO oxidation as test reaction, and on the systems Cr 2 O 3 /SnO 2 , Cr 2 O 3 /TiO 2 and Cr 2 O 3 /Al 2 O 3 catalyzing the SO 2 and H 2 oxidation, respectively.
