Abstract: The availability of corn seed at the farm level with reachable price plays an important role in the productivity of corn farming. However the sustainability of this agribusiness mostly depends on how its marketing exists. This paper investigates barriers to entry and feasibility in based community seed corn agribusiness to get sustainable business. The study used a survey to 20 member of based community corn seed breeder and the evaluation of other breeder groups under the supervision of the Field School Seed Independent Program hat have been carried out in the period of 2015 to 2018. The study also has survey in market structure of seed corn in Central Sulawesi especially Sigi District. The data were descriptively analysed. The result shows that corn seed agribusiness was feasible with Benefit Cost Ratio 1, 06 in partnership system. While an assessment identifies some activities with negligible entry barriers, a notable cost of entry is associated with most activities including promotion cost. Other concern barriers are economies of scale, distribution network, high competitive market with incumbent producer based on quality product, differentiation product, and promotion systems. Based on direct superior seed distribution or BLBU procurement policy, market opportunities especially for Research and Development hybrid corn varieties are still promising considering there is 26% gap between corn seed production and demand in Sigi Regency and wider in Central Sulawesi.

Abstract: Abstract. Rahayu HSP, Muchtar, Saidah. 2019. The feasibility and farmer perception of true shallot seed technology in Sigi District, Central Sulawesi, Indonesia. Asian J Agric 3: 16-21. Shallot is one of horticultural commodities that plays a significant role in both national and regional economy. A fluctuating supply of shallot influences the inflation level. Shallot production is currently still facing many problems, including high production cost. The high shallot production cost mostly goes to expenses for labor and seed while Indonesian shallot is mainly produced from the bulbs seed. This high-cost production causes a lower shallot competitiveness. Therefore, introduction of True Shallot Seed (TSS) technology, which lowers the cost for shallot seed, could be an ideal option to improve the shallot competitiveness in Indonesia. However, the shallot farming feasibility and the farmer’s perception of this technology are two critical aspects that need to be considered in the adoption of this new technology. This research aimed to study the potency of true shallot seed development in Central Sulawesi based on the TSS’s farming feasibility and farmer perception on TSS. The research was conducted in Sigi District, Central Sulawesi. The results showed that the farming of shallot using TSS was feasible, and within 14.9 t.ha-1 productivity, the Revenue-Cost Ratio was 3.15 while the Benefit-Cost Ratio was 2.15. The perception was examined based on three aspects namely technical, economic, and social aspects. The results showed that farmers were interested in planting true seed of shallot based on its high productivity, lower production cost, and market acceptance of the product; while in the social aspect, the extension and farmer group’s support still need to be improved for development of TSS.

Abstract: One of the efforts to accelerate the achievement of corn self-sufficiency is the efficiency of farming through the use of agricultural machinery. The use of agricultural machinery at the farm level especially in planting and fertilizingis still scarcely done, while the availability of agricultural labor is decreasing recently. Innovations will be adopted by farmers based on its performance in the field which should be applicable and efficient. The study aims to determine the performance of seed planters as planting and fertilizing tool on dry land in Sigi Regency. The research method uses agro technical studies that measure theoretical work capacity (Kt), actual work capacity (Ka), as well as the efficiency of seed planter and tugal performance. The results shows that seed planter’s performance is higher than tugal. The seed planter has an average theoretical field capacity 1.92 ha/hour with an advanced speed of 6.42 km/hour and has an actual field capacity 0.625 ha/hour, whiletugal toolhas theoretical capacity 0.50 ha/hour with an average actual field capacity 0.167 ha/hour. However, the accuracy of the volume of seed and fertilizer fallfrom the seed planter have to be improved.

Abstract: Most of Indonesia’s garlic needs are fulfilled by imported (97%). The government focuses on local garlic for seed prospects and gives a mandatory for importers to plant it to increase domestic production. Beside of using registered local varieties, it is also intended for local varieties which have not been registered, to be developed especially by local farmers. Exploration and characterization are very necessary so that the presence of local varieties of garlic in each region is known. This study aims to explore and characterize the local garlics in Central Sulawesi. The research was carried out in March 2020, located in Parigi Moutong Regency. The research used survey method, while the observations of plant morphology and agronomy using a Horticultural Plant Characterization Guidebook. The research found a local variety of garlic namely Tinombo Variety. Apart from being a cooking spice, Tinombo variety also used as a biopharmaceutical. The result of the characterization shows that Tinombo variety has light green leaf color, pale yellow flesh color, very sharp aroma, 14-21 cloves per bulb, 2-3 t/ha production while the yield potential is 7.6 t/ha. The harvest age is 5-6 months, and it is suitable in the highlands. The obstacle for farmers is the difficulty of the access to and from the field, thus the price of garlic is expensive. The cultivation technology is still conventional and does not use fertilizers. This local variety has a high chance to increase its productivity with the application of appropriate and site-specific technologies.

Abstract: The agricultural sector must receive serious attention today since it faces many challenges such as the small size of land ownership and the low interest of the younger generation for doing this business. Various efforts have been made, including the agricultural technology park program and other programs for increasing production and farmer welfare. All those agricultural programs need to be supported by technology and model to get properly development. This study aims to increase the productivity and income of farmers in the agricultural development area. The research activities include potentials and problems of farm identification by a Forum Group Discussion and research implementation using a factorial randomized completely block design with four new high yield varieties and one existing variety. The results showed that farmers were very enthusiastic and responsive to the use of new high yield varieties which combined with Jajar Legowo Super technology. The highest yields in the first and second planting season were consistently reached by Inpari 30 variety. It was carried out both in Batui and South Batui District and there was an increase in production around 1.7-2 t/ha. Crop yields and farmers’ incomes have increased. The guidance and assistance for farmer groups has not shown best results, however, collaboration between the breeder group and the off taker (PT Pertani) has been formed, while the development of premium rice has not been optimally implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Abstract: The production of shallots has been decreasing, one of the factors causing it is soil degradation that caused by the continuously use of chemicals. Thus damaging the soil and killing natural enemies. Soil improvement can be done by adding organic material, minerals, and optimizing the function of biological agents. Trichoderma sp is one of the biological agents that has the ability to degrade soil. This study aimed to determine the effect of Trichoderma form and different application methods on the growth and yield of shallots. The location of the research was in Maku village, Sigi district, Central Sulawesi, from November 2020 to January 2021. The research method used a separate plot design with four replications, where the main plot was the form of Trichoderma sp. (T), which consists of three levels, namely, T1 = liquid (60 ml/bed) and T2 = solid (12 g/bed). The size of the bed is 3 m x 1 m while the sub-plot was the application (C), which consists of three levels, namely C0 = without giving; C1 = bulb straight to the ground; C2 = mix with manure. The results showed that the treatment of Trichoderma sp has a significant effect on plant height and number of leaves, but was not significantly different in way of application. While the interaction of the two treatments have a significant effect on the performance parameters. However, in the yield component, the treatment form and way of application did not show a significant difference. Overall, the best treatment combination was Trichoderma sp in solid form mixed with manure.

Abstract: Rice is still the main food source for Indonesian people. The need for rice is increasing in line with the increasing of the population. On the other hand, the area of intensive rice fields is decreasing due to land conversion to non-agriculture. For this reason, there is a need to optimize the dry land in order to meet the domestic food needs. One aspect that really determines the success of rice production in dry land is the use of adaptive varieties such as local varieties. The Sigi Regency has large and varied collections of local upland rice germ plasm. The purpose of the study is to determine the presence of local upland rice and its morphological and agronomic characters in Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi Province. The research uses survey methods and field observations of local upland rice plants. The survey was conducted in March 2020 and located in Pipikoro Sub-District, Sigi Regency, Central Sulawesi. The exploration results found 6 (six) upland rice accessions, namely Hiwangu, Rato, Topada, Kanantiti, Tingkaloko and Pulu lana. The six varieties have various characteristics, ranging from stems, leaves, panicles, unhulled rice and broken rice. Of the six accessions, two accessions are sticky rice.
