Abstract: Distinctness, Uniformity, and Stability (DUS) characterization of ninety recently evolved soybean genotypes including three national checks were carried out at JNKVV, Jabalpur, during Kharif 2021. Sixteen DUS traits were evaluated as described by National DUS test guidelines. Observations were made on Hypocotyl Pigmentation, Growth type, Growth habitat, Leaf shape, Leaf size, Leaf colour, Flower colour, Flower colour, Pod hairiness, Pod pub colour, Pod intensity of brown colour, Seed size, Seed shape, Seed coat colour, Hilum colour, Seed coat Lustre and Colour of funicle at various phases. It revealed that there was a lot of variation in the soybean genotypes for DUS characters. Frequency distribution of data exhibited that presence of Hypocotyl: anthocyanin pigmentation (65.55 %), Semi-Determinate Growth type (75.55 %), Semi-erect Growth habitat (90.0 %), Pointed Ovate Leaf shape (83.33 %), Pod hairiness pubescent (84.44%), Seed size medium (64.44%), Seed coat colour yellow (84.44%), Seed coat Lustre intermediate (77.77%) and Colour of funicle brown (100%) were dominating traits in present set of genotypes. This soybean germplasm has a wide range of features and morphological variation, which may assist a breeder in further improvement of soybean. This will be extremely helpful in identifying, conserving and developing ideal plant type on the basis of distinguishing morphological characters.

Abstract: Forty mungbean genotypes were evaluated for fourteen quantitative traits, planted in Randomized Complete Block Design with three replications. Mahalanobis' generalised distance D2 was used to assess the character data and Principal Component Analysis for estimating genetic diversity and identification of superior mungbean genotypes. Following Tocher's technique, the 40 genotypes were divided into 7 clusters in accordance with their genetic distance. Among them four clusters were polygenotypic and three were monogenotypic. The genotypes of cluster IV and VII showed highest (40.51) inter cluster distance followed by cluster III and VII (39.04). Cluster V has been discovered to have the largest intra-cluster distance. In order to increase the genetic diversity of Vigna radiata, genotypes from these clusters may be crossed. Based on Principal Component Analysis results, 5 PCs explained 75.87% of the variation among the 14 parameters and had eigen values greater than unit. Only six genotypes—TJM-37, TJM-134, TJM-140, TJM-235, Shikha, and PM-1632—contained with favourable yield and quality associated PCs, and had outstanding remark for yield traits—out of all genotypes contributing their existence in more than one PC with high PC score. These lines may be used in hybridization programmes to transmit desirable features, such as high yield and high quality, to recipient mungbean genotypes, resulting in the creation of promising cultivars.

Abstract: In present study, 67 JNPT (Jawahar New Plant Type) lines were evaluated for 28 morphological and quality traits planted in RCBD with three replications. Principal Component Analysis (PCA) revealed that out of 28, only eight PCs exhibited more than 1.0 eigen value and showed about 81.84% total variability. For selecting the high yielding genotypes in rice, the characters viz., spikelet density, spikelet fertility, number of tillers plant–1and panicle weight plant–1 may be considered. On the basis of high PC score ten most prominent lines namely JNPT-1059-9, JNPT-1059- 10, JNPT1062-1, JNPT-1062-2, JNPT-1064-9, JNPT-1065-1, JNPT-1065-2, JNPT1065-3, JNPT-1066-52 and JNPT-1068- 65 were identified for yield and quality traits.

Abstract: Greengram is India's most significant legume crop, and because there is relatively little genetic variety, increasing productivity demands increased attention in research for the development of superior cultivars. During Kharif 2020-21, an experiment was conducted to the evaluation of the genetic parameters for yield and their associated attributes for thirty-nine Mungbean genotypes. Using a Randomised Block Design (RBD), all genotypes were sown in three replications. The observations on various quantitative characters were recorded, and the genetic parameters, PCV, GCV, heritability(bs), and genetic advance, along with the analysis of variances, were estimated. According to ANOVA, almost all genotypes exhibited significant variances for all characters. The highest GCV and PCV was found to be pod length (cm), number of pods cluster-1, number of primary branches plant-1, biological yield plant-1 as well as seed yield plant-1. The heritability was recorded high for pod length (cm) followed by number of primary branches plant-1, number of pods cluster-1, days to pod initiation, number of seeds pod-1, days to 50% flowering, seed yield plant-1, biological yield plant-1, number of effective pods plant-1. The character’s days to flower initiation, total number of pods plant-1, harvest index and number of clusters plant-1 revealed medium genetic advance. High heritability(bs) coupled high genetic advance as percent of mean was observed for pod length (cm), number of branches plant-1, number of pods cluster-1, days to pod initiation, number of seeds pod-1, days to 50% flowering, seed yield plant-1, biological yield plant-1 and number of effective pods plant-1.

Abstract: The field experiment was conducted at Seed Technology Research Center, Department of Plant breeding and Genetics, JNKVV-Jabalpur Kharif-2021. Growth analytical attributes studies indicated superior performance of seed treatment with nano-ZnO @500mg L-1 for LAI @60 DAS (days after sowing), @70 DAS, @80 DAS, LAD, CGR, RGR and BMD w.r.t. 24.26%, 21.39%, 28.50%, 12.09%, 21.42%, 20.17% and 20.56% enhancement over control. Varietal studies revealed superior performance of variety JS 20-116 for LAI, LAD, CGR, RGR and BMD. Biophysical parameters studies revealed superior performance of seed treatment with nano –ZnO @500mg L-1 for chlorophyll content index and energy interception with 5.19% and 26.51% enhancement over control respectively. With respect to variety superior performance of variety JS-20-116 for chlorophyll content index and energy interception. Seed quality parameters studies indicated superior performance of seed treatment with nano–ZnO @500mg L-1 for final plant stand, germination, and seed vigour index I and seed vigour index II with respect to 29.16%, 14.11%, 26.40% and 21.43% enhancement over control. With respect to variety, superior performance of variety JS-20-116 for final plant stand, and seed vigour index I and seed vigour index II and JS 20-34 for seed germination. This results justifies that the seed treatment with nano formulation in the form of ZnO @ 500mg L-1 will improve growth analytical attributes, physiological efficiency and seed quality of the soybean. Hence the seed treatment with nano-ZnO @500mg L-1 is recommended to farmers for maximum productivity, physiological efficiency and sowing seed quality.

Abstract: Aims: we aimed to investigate the chlorophyll spectrum and morphological characteristics of Pea under the influence of gamma radiations. Methods: The experimental material comprised three pea genotypes viz; Arkel, Kashi Nandini, and PSM-3. Mature and well-filled seeds were irradiated with 150 and 200 Gy doses of gamma rays, and six treatments with three control were laid into randomized block design at Research Farm, Krishi Vigyan Kendra during the spring of 2018-19. Results: The highest frequency of chlorophyll mutation was recorded in PSM-3 at 150 Gy and the lowest in Kashi Nandini at 200 Gy. The widest spectrum of chlorophyll mutation with seven different mutants was recorded in the PSM-3 at a 150 Gy dose. With an increase in the dose of gamma rays, there was a decrease in the mutation frequency in all the varieties. Conclusions: Gamma rays at a rate of 150 Gy were the best for increasing the mutation frequency and they can be used for the induction of desirable mutations in peas. The obtained results confirm that the high potency of the selected mutagenic doses induced a high phenotypic diversity in the treated population and the isolated distinct mutants were of great economic, as well as academic interest for future breeding on peas. The seeds derived from the control and treated populations should be advanced to further generations, to release more variability for quantitative traits which will favor better selection.
