Abstract: Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are an important form of symbiosis between fungi and plants in an ecosystem. One of the medicinal plants used by the people in West Papua is kebar grass (Biophytum petersianum Klotzsch.). This study aims to determine the AMF association in the rhizosphere of B. petersianum in grasslands. Survey method was used in this study. The presence of AMF was observed by examining root colonization and spore diversity. The results showed that the percentage of AMF colonization in roots was between 46.7–90.0% with an average of 71.66%. Meanwhile, the number of spores found in the plant rhizosphere averaged 119.8 spores per 10 grams of soil sample. There were 18 species of AMF dominated by the genus Glomus (7 species), Acaulospora (3 species), while the genus Claroideoglomus, Entrophospora, Gigaspora, and Scutellospora were dominated each with 2 species. This finding is the first record on the presence of AMF on B. petersianum in West Papua.

Abstract: Indonesia is rich of natural resources, including the diversity of agricultural crops and other valuable plants. Many plant species used by local people for traditional herbal medicine and some other species used by drug industries. Among these, Wati (Piper methysticum, Piperaceae) is one of the medicinal plant found in Merauke lowland, Papua. It has been cultivated by local people because of it high value as medicinal and cultural uses. Wati plant is used to treat anti-stress, rheumatism, respiratory tract infections, tuberculosis, gonorrhea, headache etc. The habitat, including the microorganism in the soil plays an important role in the growth of this plant. Therefore, this study was conducted to identify the arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) associated with the rhizosphere of Wati from Merauke lowland. Soil and root samples were collected from different locations and the colonization percentage on the root sample were determined. Our results showed that the number of the spores in the soil samples was 45-89 spores/50 g soil, while the colonization percentage on the root was 38.46-83.3%. Among 13 AMF morphospecies that found on the soil samples, 10 were identified to genus level such as Glomus, Clariodeoglomus, Acaulospora and Scutellospora, while the other were unidentified. Further work will be needed such as trap-plant culture method to get more information on the diversity of AMF associated with Wati.

Abstract: Peatlands are often associated with an area that has a specific habitat in a particular area. The purpose of this study was to determine the characteristics and associations of the dominant biodiversity in the Mappi Regency, Papua. The research method used was a survey. The survey was conducted in Bamgi District, Mappi, Papua. The results showed that peat soils in Mappi have characteristics that are categorized as fabric-peat. Acidity or soil pH condition belongs in the low category (3.95-4.53), moderate C-organic (16.31%), high nitrogen (1.09%), moderate C/N ratio (15.01), whereas soil texture was from clay loam to sandy silt loam. This peatland is associated with various types of important tree groups flora, such as sago, agarwood, or gaharu (Aquilaria spp), massoy tree, rubber, and whitebark tree or gambir. Based on the level of importance, this peatland area contains various important plant species. Thus it needs to be conserved with appropriate area management.

Abstract: Introduction: We undertook a prospective community-based study in North Jakarta, Indonesia, to determine the incidence, clinical characteristics, seasonality, etiologic agent, and antimicrobial susceptibility pattern of enteric fever. Methodology: Following a census, treatment centre-based surveillance for febrile illness was conducted for two-years. Clinical data and a blood culture were obtained from each patient. Results: In a population of 160,261, we detected 296 laboratory-confirmed enteric fever cases during the surveillance period, of which 221 (75%) were typhoid fever and 75 (25%)  were paratyphoid fever.  The overall incidence of typhoid and paratyphoid cases was 1.4, and 0.5 per thousand populations per year, respectively. Although the incidence of febrile episodes evaluated was highest among children under 5 years of age at 92.6 per thousand persons per year, we found that the burden of typhoid fever was greatest among children between 5 and 20 years of age. Paratyphoid fever occurred most commonly in children and was infrequent in adults. Conclusion: Enteric fever is a public health problem in North Jakarta with a substantial proportion due to paratyphoid fever. The results highlight the need for control strategies against enteric fever.

Abstract: Palm oil is one of the commodities of plantation products that has an important economic role in Indonesia and is also an export commodity as foreign exchange earner for oil and gas. Palm oil produces the main product Crude Palm Oil (CPO). As main product, CPO continues to experience an increase in export volumes in line with the growing need for CPO in export destination countries, both as food raw material and biodiesel. However, when the implementation of the customs policy was issued in 2009, there was a change in the composition of exports from CPO to palm-derived products, namely RBD palm olein and PFAD. The main markets for Indonesian palm oil products are in Asia and Europe, the four largest countries, including India, Malaysia, the Netherlands, and Italy. This research aims to analyze the factors that influence the volume of Indonesian CPO exports in export destination countries. Based on the results of Ordinary Least Square (OLS), the variables that significantly affect Indonesia’s CPO exports in export destination countries are (1) India: export volume lag, (2) Malaysia: soybean oil prices, (3) Netherlands: RCA, and (4) Italy: estimates of sunflower oil, RCA, exchange rates and dummy exit fees.

Abstract: Function is a concept that is very much related to daily life. Likewise with the concept of mapping. The purpose of this study is to describe students’ understanding of the concept of function and mapping by students who are at a high level (ie extended-trans level). The student is the subject of this study. This research is exploring the ability of research subjects. The research subjects were taken from mathematics education students at Bengkulu University. We selected one subject of research, Mg. Student was interviewed in depth about the concept of function. Data were analyzed based on genetic decomposition. The results of this study are that students are able to present an overview of the concept of function with a broad extension level. The function from the set A to B is the set f whose members are sequential pairs of the two cross-sets of non-empty sets A and B such that (a, b) and (a, b ′) elements of f then b = b′. Also able to make a simplification in the form of mapping definition, which states that the domain of function f is the set A. The conclusion of this study is that high-level students have an in-depth understanding of the concept of function. He is able to compile extensive extensions. Also, make the exact simulations.
