Abstract: In this study, we proposed a simple method for preparing triamine-bearing activated rice husk ash material (TRI-ARHA) as an advanced functional material with high nitrate adsorption capacity and durability. The novel TRI-ARHA was generated via a post-synthesis grafting method and modified by acidification to form ammonium moiety. TRI-ARHA was then characterized by using thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and SEM-mapping. The TRI-ARHA had high nitrate adsorption capacity of 163.4 mgNO3−/g, which was 2.06 times higher than that of a commercial anion exchange resin (Akualite A420) due to strong interactions of Si, C, and N in the material structure. This functional material with good durability after 10 cycles could be very promising for adsorption of other anions (e.g. sulfate and phosphate) in water and wastewater treatment.

Abstract: In this study, a potential adsorbent was synthesized from iron salt and cation exchange resin (FeOOH@CR) and applied for phosphate adsorption in batch experiments. The characteristics of FeOOH@CR materials before and after phosphate adsorption were determined by FTIR, XRD, and SEM. The factors affecting the adsorption process such as reaction time, solution pH, material dosage, concentration, temperature, and competing ions were tested. Kinetic, thermodynamic and isothermal models of the adsorption process were applied to study the nature of the adsorption process. The properties of phosphate adsorption, effect of competitive ions and material reusability were also examined. Results showed that the adsorption time reached equilibrium after 48 h and the suitable adsorption condition was found at solution pH of 6.5, material dosage of 5 g/L. In addition, the durability of the material after 5 times of regeneration was investigated with the remained adsorption ability of about 55% as compared to the original one.

Abstract: This work reports the successful synthesis and application of α-Cu-FeOOH in heterogeneous Fenton treatment of actual textile dyeing wastewater. The material characteristics were analyzed by SEM, EDX, BET, FTIR, and XRD methods. In heterogeneous Fenton tests, the highest TOC and color removal efficiencies were found to be 46.88 and 37.98%, respectively, in the suitable conditions of Cu/Fe molar ratio = 5%, [H 2 O 2 ] = 0.1 M, [α-Cu-FeOOH] = 0.6 g/L, pH = 7, and after 60 min. The values of color and TOC after treatment well met the discharge standard for textile dyeing wastewater (QCVN 13:2015/BTNMT, Column B). The presence of copper in the material enhanced the activation of H 2 O 2 in heterogeneous Fenton reactions under neutral environments. Therefore, α-Cu-FeOOH material has great potential for practical application in textile wastewater treatment with an initial color of 185.6 mg/L and TOC concentration of 72.54 mg/L.

Abstract: An Giang province is one of the largest rice producer regions in Vietnam with 600,000 hectares of paddy field and 4 million tons of rice production every year. The rice milling industry generates a huge amount of rice husk (~23% of paddy rice). The rice husk is currently used as fuel around the province generating rice husk ash (RHA) which causes environmental and health issues. This study focuses on surveying and analyzing the current situation for utilization, management, treatment, and awareness of enterprises and community about generated RHA via a household investigation method. The results showed that, in average, a factory generates 862.4 tons of RHA per year, whereas half of them are reused or are sold for re-utilization in other factories, 56.3% are disposed in the private landfill of the factory, and 1.6 to 6.3 % are directly disposed to nearby rivers or in soil. Most of the interviewed citizens reported that they were aware of the RHA impact on the environment nevertheless, only 2% knew that RHA can be re-utilized for other purposes. Therefore, it is necessary to raise public awareness about the reuse and utilization of RHA to reduce the environmental impact and contribute to the sustainable development of the rice production.

Abstract: Background: To determine the molecular subtypes and correlation between molecular subtypes and histopathological features in breast cancer in Vietnam and Italy. Material and method: 88 patients with invasive breast carcinoma (BC) in both Hue Central Hospital and Hue University Hospital in Vietnam during 1 year from April 2016 to April 2017 as well as 235 patients from the same category of women in Sassari University Hospital, Italy during the year 2016 were collected. All patients were examined for immunohistochemistry (IHC) with four markers ER, PR, HER2, and Ki67. The immunofluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) test was applied for cases with HER2 (2+)/ IHC. Results: Breast cancer in Vietnam had the highest Luminal B (LB) rate, at 37.5%, followed by HER2 enrich (22.7%) and triple-negative breast cancer accounting for 21.6%. Luminal A (LA) accountd for the lowest proportion (18.2%). In contrast, breast cancer in Italy has the highest rate of Luminal A (54%), LB accounted for 34.5%, triple-negative occupied 10.6% and HER2 enrichment has a very low rate (0.9%). There was a statistically significant correlation between molecular subtypes and pathological features such as histologic grade, axillary lymph node, and stage of disease in both Vietnamese and Italian groups (p 〈 0.005). Most breast cancers in Vietnam and Italy belong to the Luminal A with low histologic grade, early-stage disease, and no metastasis. No statistically significant association was found between molecular subtypes and tumor size in the Vietnamese breast cancer group. By contrast, this association was statistically significant with p 〈 0.05 in Italy. Conclusion: There is a significant difference in the molecular subtypes and the correlation between molecular subtypes and histopathological features between Vietnamese and Italian breast cancers. The two more common subtypes in Vietnam are LB and HER2, while in Italy they are LA and LB. The rate of HER2 subtypes in Vietnam is much higher than in Italy Key words: Invasive breast carcinoma, molecular subtype, Vietnam, Italy

Abstract: Every year, thousands of tons of plant protection product (PPP) containers are indiscriminately discharged into the environment as toxic waste that has a negative impact on the land, water, and air environment as well as public health. This study surveyed the use of PPPs in rice cultivation, and the generation of hazardous waste (HW) when using pesticides, specifically pesticide packaging and containers in Long Kien and Long Dien B communes, Cho Moi district, An Giang province, Vietnam.  Data collection was conducted through direct interviews, mainly collecting personal information of farmers in the surveyed area, the current situation with regard to pesticide use, container management, environmental awareness, and proposals for hazardous waste management from the farmers’ perspectives. The results show that local farmers are aware of the harmful effects of pesticide containers, but they are not able to make use of effective methods of collecting and treating the waste containers properly. Based on the survey results, several solutions are proposed for managing HW in order to reduce environmental pollution from the use of pesticides, minimize the impacts of HW on people's health, and contribute to local sustainable development.

Abstract: Ferric oxide-amine material was synthesized and applied as a novel adsorbent for nitrate and phosphate removal from aqueous solution. The properties of ferric oxide-amine were examined using TGA, FTIR, BET, SEM, EDX, SEM-mapping, and XRD analysis. The results showed that the adsorption using ferric oxide-amine material reached equilibrium after 30 and 60 min for nitrate and phosphate, respectively. The highest nitrate and phosphate adsorption capacities were 131.4 mg nitrate/g at pH 5-6 and 42.1 mg phosphate/g at pH 6. The effects of adsorbent dosage, initial concentrations of nitrate and phosphate, and adsorption temperature were also investigated. Among the three adsorbents of ferric oxide-amine, ferric oxide, and Akualite A420 ion exchange resin, ferric oxide-amine material had the highest adsorption capacity for nitrate and phosphate removal. These results suggest a great potential use of ferric oxide-amine material for water treatment in practical applications.
