Abstract: The aim of this study was to analyse the applicability of management tools associated with technical assistance to family dairy farms with the aim of identifying and correcting weaknesses. A total of 100 dairy farms located in the mesoregion of the Acre Valley, in the Western Amazon, were analysed from March 2016 to March 2017. The data used were collected via a semi-structured form containing 549 questions, through on-site observation and from the owners during the diagnosis. To define the weaknesses, a multidisciplinary team used the brainstorming management tool. The main weaknesses obtained using the GUT Matrix, in descending order, were: a lack of drinking fountains, no vaccination of all heifers against brucellosis, low body condition of cows at calving, and a calving interval longer than 12 months. Based on the ranking of the weaknesses, the research team defined the management tools to be used to correct or at least mitigate the weaknesses: PDCA, 5W2H, and/or a fishbone diagram. Among the 20 most graded weaknesses, the management tools used by the extensionist technician obtained significant results in solving the problems. It was concluded that it is possible to adapt and apply the management tools used in other activities to dairy farming and that they can be used continuously for management or specifically to establish a plan or project.

Abstract: The research is a study about the relationship and the harmony of interests between chicken farming, pig farmers and the integrated agroindustry, in the case of Rezende Alimentos, recently bought by Sadia Group, having the industrial complex installed in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. Various companies, some transnationals, have been installed in the region of Triângulo Mineiro/Alto Paranaíba, establishing contracts with producers of milk, tomatoes, sweetcorn, peas, swine, chicken farming and soy. The research was conducted by means of interviews with integrated agriculturalists, representatives of the integrated company and political leaders of the rural section of the region. Preliminary data reveal the predominance, between integrated parts, medium and great producers, who are directing production activities in a business-like-way using hired workers. This configuration presents, according to the new standards of accumulation in this present phase of capitalist restructuring, in which the industries classify advantages in scale and rapidity in the incorporation of technological innovations in the producing systems. Besides, these agriculturalists have other sources of income, which give, them power to negociate with the integrated industries. For the reason that, in the middle of the question there is a possible paradox between integrated rural production, the way in which, it was established and the accumulation agroindustrial models, revealing the possibility of real gain for the producers facing the integrated agroindustry, through political action.

Abstract: This study analysed the effect of socioeconomic factors on the yields of 28 family-operated dairy farms in the mesoregion of the Triângulo/Alto Paranaiba in Minas Gerais State, Brazil, to identify which components constituted greater proportions of the total costs and operating efficiency and those components’ effects on revenue. Data were collected from January to December 2013. The socioeconomic factors, place of residence, producer's age, education level, and land tenure were evaluated for their effects on the variables, gross margin, net margin, yield, and profitability. In this study, none of these socioeconomic factors affected the economic variables. Of the net operating costs, the components that constituted most of the dairy farming costs, in descending order, were feed, labour and sanitation. For total costs, the components in descending order were feed, depreciation and return on invested capital. Of the net operating costs, the components constituting most of the dairy business revenue, in descending order, were feed, miscellaneous expenses and labour.

Abstract: This study proposes to evaluate the relationship between the economic return of dairy production and its scales. Economic and production data were collected from 28 dairy farms located in the Triângulo Mineiro/ Alto Paranaíba mesoregion, MG, Brazil. The farms were stratified into three scales of milk production: small (less than 150 kg), medium (151 to 400 kg), and large (over 400 kg). Data collected between January and December 2013 were analyzed statistically using SPSS 27.0 software, considering a minimum significance level of 95% (P 〈 0.05). Gross Margin, Net Margin, and Outcome were used as indicators of return. Among the fixed costs, depreciation corresponded to 16.56, 15.90, and 12.54% of total costs for the small, medium, and large producers, respectively. Among the variable costs, feeding accounted for 26.26, 34.94, and 44.58% of total costs on the small, medium, and large farms, respectively. Only the large-scale producers had positive outcomes (BRL 27,010.73), whereas the small and medium producers had losses (BRL -28,615.21 and BRL -18,233.83, respectively). In conclusion, increasing the scale of production positively influences the economic return of dairy farming.

Abstract: Abstract This work is the result of an interest in understanding the influence of Fair-trade in the development of capital. In addition, the study aimed at investigating the influence of Fair-trade on the development of capital among Fair-trade coffee growers associated with the Cooperative “Dos Costas”, which is based in the municipality of Boa Esperança-MG. The conduct of the research allowed the investigation of the existence of relationships of trust, cooperation and participation between the actors, as well as the ties that hold the group together and moving in the same direction. The qualitative research included documentary analysis, intentional in-depth interviews (three coffee farmers who manage the cooperative) and for convenience (six associated coffee farmers), and non-participant observation. The results showed the influence of Fair-trade in fostering collaborative work, strengthening the already existing relationships of trust, cooperation and participation, among coffee growers, and also contributing to the formation of new ties and the development of capital.

Abstract: Considering the challenges proposed for teachers, and the peculiarities of modern and industrial society, this article approaches the theme of environmental education in Brazil. Discussions about the environment problem seldom reach the teaching level, on the basic and intermediary levels, maintaining the gap between the university and the basic formation school, between the academic debate about the environment problematic and environmental education. The theme environment conservation is not only a didactical-pedagogical challenge, as it has been treated by many educators, but is related to a much more complex problem. This study has as objective to discuss the need to expand the discussion in such a way that it would allow the treatment of fundamental themes, generally discussed in politics, economy, sociology, as an awareness and comprehension of environment problematic strategy. The research was done from the analysis of environment problematic conditionings, and the study of the process of incorporation of the environment theme in courses of the social sciences group. As a result, the environment crisis is understood more as a symptom of the modernity crisis, which is manifested not only through the environment disadjustment, but also by the worsening of social, political and economical problems.
